    Went to the Copper State Fly in yesterday. It was a beautiful day for flying. Here are some pics.

      Charlie, have you checked out the "Champlin Fighter Museum" yet?

      I found this link:

      But also found this:

      Closed and moved to Seattle!

      I wonder about the gun collection? Largest private collection of Thompson SMGs.

          I haven't had the chance to check that out. But I'm going to. I know someone who owns several Thompsons, but he's very hush hush about them.

          Thanks guys! I'm glad you enjoy the pics. The day was full of great stuff.

              Mr. Webster speaketh!

              Charlie, is that red biplane a Stearman?

              Also, what is the last plane? Looks like an A6M5 cowl and prop, but the rest of it doesn't. Russian star markings and "Russian-looking" tail. It's not a Yak, is it?

                It is indeed a '43 Stearman. My boss restored and owns it. I don't know anything about that fighter, just thought it was a nice plane.

                  Found it:

                  Yak 11, introduced in 1945. Primarily a trainer and second tier fighter-bomber for Warsaw Pact of that era.

                  Some more info:

                    That's cool, I think they raced that particular YAK 11 in the fighter races earlier that day, but I missed it. I really liked that p41, it was ridicules how nice of a job they did on that plane.

                        "P" = "patrol" later changed to "F" = "fighter."

                        PB = patrol bomber,

                        PBY being patrol bomber, Consolidated ("Y" = Consolidated company).

                        Y could also be "experimental" but I think that came later. "X" was or became experimental...

                        And IIRC, the Army Air Corps and the Navy had their own designation systems, which also later changed.

                        Just old arcane knowledge leaking out.
