Another great example of an entrepreneur who didn’t let the failures hold him back is inventor Thomas Edison, who started 100 companies, all before the age of forty. Edison had more than 1,000 patents and invented three major industries: motion pictures, recorded sound and light. One of his core principles was never to give up. We all know Edison invented the light bulb. What many don’t realize is that it took him 6,000 attempts before he found the right solution.
Even when his New Jersey laboratory burned to the ground in 1914, destroying all of his equipment in research, Edison simply poked through the ashes and said, “There is great value in disaster. All our mistakes are burned up. Thank God we can start anew.”
