  • why does it sound like i'm running a straight downpipe?....

When I finished the brake swap and finally got the little blue back on the road it was much louder than normal... I couldn't figure out why, I mean, its always been loud because the exhaust is rusted out right in front of the muffler, but this time it was ridiculously loud. I kinda liked the sound of it at the higher RPMs, but at idle it sounded like a loping V8 with competition cams or something. I knew there was a gap in the downpipe because I had to make a custom putting together of the BP downpipe and the festiva downpipe so it would bolt up to the cat, and the coupler that I used was about a 1/4" wider than the BP downpipe... so I crawled up under there today to see why it sounded like I was running just a straight downpipe... and this what I found...

Apparently at some point the bolt that I had to keep the coupler hooked up to the down pipe had come out, and the whole thing worked itself loose... so I actually was running a straight downpipe, I just didn't know it. I'm replacing the bolts today and putting red locktite on them, plus I'm tripple-wrapping the area with one of those heavy tin exhaust bandages, so we'll see how it turns out...

On a lighter note, here's the little blue popping a wheelie in my driveway! (just pretend you don't see the jackstands under the front :lol

    No festiva for me ATM...

Ah, much better, that was a quick fix. It sounds like a car again instead of an angry 1.8 liter dirt bike

My EGT exhaust busted before the cat. Yeah it does sound nice for short trips but, my friends dubbed it the "Mysterious Headache Machine" if you sat in it for longer than 5 mins.

well, its got a BP, so it growled a low throaty rumble up to around 5K then the VICS opened up and then it would scream like a huyabusa ... After I fixed the front going into the cat, I took an old sprite can and some more screw down clamps I had laying around and went up under the back of the car to reconnect the exhuast into the muffler. As it turns out the side of the muffler has since dissintegrated anyway, so its still a lot louder than stock, but like I said, it at least sounds like a car again, and it doesn't sound ricey or fart-can-ish which is good... it just sounds like an EGT, just a little louder ... all I gotta do is grab the muffler off one of the festies at the yard and the little blue shouldn't sound scary (or fast) at all. There's a festy there with an almost new aftermarket muffler (just a cheap one, but its new) that somebody already welded to the stock flange and welded the stock hangers on and it hangs in the stock location... they did all the work, all I gotta do is pull it
            No festiva for me ATM...

Hey, htchbck, tomorrow's the big day  The roof and hatch behind the B-pillars are goin' off!!!! Gonna use a Sawzall and some 6" metal blades to get the job done. I'll take some pics for folks who want to do the same. Also, question, I want to put a sunroof above the front seats, ya got a car in mind that'll do? And what about a Kia Sportage softtop? Ya think it may be close to fittin' the backside of the Festy? hmmmm...
Look up, smile back, someone loves ya up there.
