So someone on this site pointed me toward information for a road race in N. California for cars that are bought, built, and race prepped for $500.00 or less. I showed it to a few buddies in the WSU engineering department and we have decided to field a team for the '08 24 hour of LeMons in Tracy, Ca.
After reading the rules we found that the only things that werent included in the $500.00 budget were safety items (cage, tires, brakes, helmets, etc). So, we needed a cheap car that we could build and prep for $500.00...good thing I had 3 Festivas in the shop...lol
So as it turns out, the Festiva (named Rupert) we originally bought as a parts car is now the only Festiva that runs. We have decided to use a 1.6L B6 engine out of a 1988 Mazda 323 (82 bhp). My teamates found a nice one at a junk yard on Friday for $135.00. We will be doing extensive headwork and fitting with some small bore motorcycle carbs. When finished the engine should yield us a massive 100+ bhp. As you can see in the pictures below the work has already begun and I will update as progress continues.
