Man, why do things always break on my cars right before a meet?! My camaro never made it to a single Camaro Club meet, my Festiva has only managed one Westiva before the trans exploded (and subsequent budget issues and automotive ADD kept it down) and now the Sporty blows a brand new head gasket (just finished break-in on a fresh rebuild) 2 weeks before this one.
I'm going to burn the midnight oil to get it straightened back out, but if that doesn't pan out you guys will be able to see the awesome new(ly refinished- I've had 'em for years) wheels on my Vibe.

You are not alone. I have less than 150 miles on a new rebuild and now the trans is leaking fluid pretty good and the p/s seal is leaking. I ordered a replacement seal kit which is supposed to arrive tomorrow, I hope to find the trans leak tonight. I can only see 2 options: 1) Trailer the Festiva to Westiva or 2) Bring a case of transmission fluid along with me. I would like to get some miles on this baby before taking off on the trip.

Is 500 miles considered break in period?

Engine break-in is almost as hotly debated a forum topic as religion or torsen vs. clutch-type posi. But 500 miles is a pretty good number.

        Where is the trans leaking?

It's a Stampede miracle! Sporty is back in business, wheels are getting balanced tomorrow and I've got some other random bits to take care of, but barring any further disasters my bizarre vaguely-Festiva-like Korean truck thing will be in attendance.

Five days to go and so much to do. Looks like we'll be there with two Festivas this year. Weather is looking great with a forecast high of 29°C/84°F and clear skies.

              Ian,

Thanks for the weather update. I think we are all set to go. P/S seal replaced and no more leaks. When I put in the transmission I had forgotten to torque one of the bolts with the copper gaskets so now that is fixed. It was 100 degrees here yesterday and the a/c is working as well as it ever has. Not enough time to put in the new radio with navigation and DVD. I will start packing tonight for the trip. We are taking the scenic route - 662 miles to Wedge Pond, allowing 2 days to make the drive.

Got a phone call from Gary, one of our regular attendees, last night. He is the original owner of a white 92 or 93 Festiva GL that has all the bells and whistles. He just called to say that he couldn't make it as he will be driving his Model A Ford from Calgary AB to Tacoma WA!

Looks like we're going to have at least four Festivas!!!

Does anyone coming to westiva want to buy a spoiler? I have a spare I could throw in the car. Looking for $200 OBO for it. Just the spoiler, no plugs/caps.

I have a set of white factory alloys I can bring if anyone is interested. I've got some 12" tires as well that are in fairly good shape.

Here's the ad I currently have on Kijiji... http://www.kijiji.ca/v-tires-rims/ca...res/1002063158

Definitely not flat around here. This photo is of the road over the Highwood Pass just a little south of Wedge Pond. At 2206m (7238ft) it's the highest paved pass in Canada; that's the summit parking lot in the bottom right hand corner. Bolokid will be coming through here on his way to Westiva.

Ok bad news is I think I have a rear strut gone bad, she's rattling and clunking a bit, checked bearings and such and I'm pretty sure its the strut, Worse news is there is no one in town that stocks one....

But now the good news, I'm not worrying about it, we are gonna roll out as planned, I put in a couple spring rubbers to help the rear suspension a bit, the shock seems tight enough to still go with considering it rides about 80% compressed all the time anyway I feel confident, and worst case I will pick one up on the trip and change it out where ever I may need too...

Wooo Hooo, I'm pumped to get on the road, One more sleep for me and then I'm off.... See you all there...
