You can bolt on a B6 head for the bigger valves.

You sure about that? I think that if that worked, we'd know more about it by now. I think I've read others saying it won't fit right. I could be wrong.

Porting a stock head is a waste of time.....imo......Going with a thinner head gasket or milling the head would benefit you more, but a high compression motor likes better gas. Just my .02c

Never done it myself, but from what I read, the bigger valves in the B6 head will interfere with the block (B3 has a smaller bore) and will require notching the top of the cylinders for clearance. As I said in a previous post, If this is true, then even if you notch the cylinders the valves will be so close to the cylinder walls that flow will be adversely effected. Someone else on here probably knows for sure. Also, my guess is the chambers are larger and will lower compression, which is the LAST thing you want.
A good performance valve job will help as much as anything. A B6, B8 or BP swap will cost about what a good valve job does and give you more power anyway.

When chevy released the 396 / 425 HP motor in 1965 it was based on the eariler 427 mystery motor. Chevy did not want to give up the 425 HP rating, even on the newer 396. The way around this was to use the large valve heads, the only problem was the valves were to big for the smaller 396 bore. So what they did was fly cut the top of the 396 cylinders to clear the valves. While not a perfect fix it did work.

I have a 396 with a set of 502 big block chevy heads on it, complete with fly cut cylinders to clear the massive 2.25 intake vlaves, the motor puts out about 550 HP and does 10.32 ets.

so I dont think it would be problem mating the b6 heads on a b3 as long as it passes a moch up test.

HP gain?? ebven with the valve valve shrouding issues I sure you would pick up a couple hP
