The entire disturbutor and the ignition coil - don't now about the wiring harness hook-ups. I'm going to look at it in the spring for the 94. It would be nice to hook up a msd.
I'm not sure a Festy dizzy will work. The Aspire dizzy has both cam and crank sensors to provide data to the pcm for sequential injection. The Festy uses a bank fire type injection, and may be lacking one of those sensors. I'll see what I can find in my service pubs.
hmmm.... now that I think about it, you might be able to swap the Aspire module into the Festy dizzy, and add some leads to the module to remote mount a coil....

I can say from professional experience that they do offer some gains when used in conjunction with other modifications, primarily intake and exhaust mods. On a stock engine, especially Festy/Assfire, the most I've ever really noticed is some smoothing of the idle and easier starting on carbed cars. The 6AL is overkill for a stocker. The 5A is plenty, which is what Fester may be receiving shortly.

Which of the three ignitions, if any, might be worthwhile on my ATX B6 with header, larger TB, CAI, balanced injectors and low restriction exhaust? It wouldn't necessarily have to be hp gains, but maybe better fuel economy and/or smoother engine operation. (I wouldn't turn down a couple more hp.)
I don't think I'll ever have nitrous and I won't be drag racing.
It should be cost effective and reliable.
Any hints? Ignition alone? Coil alone? Both?

I have seen proof on a Bear Digital Scope and Vetronix portable 5 Gas emissions analyzer. Very interesting rastor and parade pattern on the scope. 4-5 spark events at idle, gradually dropping back to one about 3000rpm, but all with a significantly higher peak kV (stock about 10kV, w/ MSD about 25kV at the plug) There was also a marked reduction in HC and CO at idle, one of the dirtiest modes of operation for any ICE. CO2 increased slightly, and O2 dropped slightly (all good signs). Most noticable changes were at low rpm, but improvements were seen across the board.
Keep in mind, also, that an MSD type strategy is built into the factory ignition systems on many manufacturers, pioneered by Ford in the mid 90's (96 CV, GM, TC w/ II EEC V, specifically).

Wires aren't too old. I think I did them in the spring time.
No room on firewall up top. That's where we mounted the cruise control servo.
I ended up getting food poisoning or something the other night. I spent all night long on Friday puking about once an hour. Finally at about 6 am I figured out if I only take 2 sips of water I could keep it down. A 3rd would make me puke. Nothing worse then dying of thirst, but not being able to drink.
easy, just remove the coil, i use a mustang 2.3 coil and i install the post from the oem coil on the ignition wire and i place the stang coil on the fender ( msd is inside the car under glove box). use shrink tubing to adapt the post to a modified wire, place dielectric grease and a tie-wrap.
The aspire uses the same cap as the 95-97 Protege, 94-95 MX3, 95 Kia Sportage, 95-97 Sephia.. I wouldn't be surprised the ignition systems were the same. Here is a pdf that shows you how to convert the honda dist. cap with internal coil system for the external coil.
i'd think all you would have to do to convert it to external coil would be....cut off the coil tower, install a pre coil in disty distributer cap say from a 88 carbed model, and then extend the coil wires to an external coil and hook up a coil to disty lead. i have a spare junk disty that i'll try it out on. i'm sick of these pos distributers. put a brand new $300 one on yesterday and it's acting up already.
