    wow, thats a lot of research! Man, I remember redlining my BP in 3rd and it was around 80... can only imagine what I could've hit in 3rd with that trans If only I still had a Festiva... and some money :lol:
    No festiva for me ATM...

      Me too, absolutely, but when youre just cruising around or commuting theres absolutely no reason to wind out like that. I was managing 40 mpg with a car capable of low 13's.

        Anybody else get a look into this sort of stuff? Karl brings up a good point with the Protege F5MR and the Escort FD... the Protege/Escort share 5th gear ratio, so you could still get the same 1st/5th gear with slightly zippier 2nd, 3rd, and 4th by taking a Protege F5 and swapping the diff only. AKA cheaper and easier solution to getting maximum MPG and minimum RPM/MPH.

          I just did a 5th gear swap from an early 626 (non GT) into an Escort GT trans and it dropped the RPM's by 500 in 5th for the guy.

              Finding a FS Escort just got a little easier, thanks to some help from FEOA.net!

              J = 3.62

              Don't confuse it with the Transaxle code which is:
              W = 5 Speed
              E = Automatic
              So now it's just a matter of finding an "E" Escort transaxle ratio in a junkyard somewhere!
