  • Turbocharging a B3

Well Ive always wanted to build my own turbo car and after rebuliding some of the engine I want to try it on my Festiva. Im just curious to what parts in the engine I would need to replace/the weakest components. Im probably gonna be using a t25 turbo (I think) from a 1990 laser or maybe a nice big 1.07trim turbo from a 7.3l powerstroke But anyways has anyone done this before? I searched around a little bit and found nothing except someone in Australia who was talkin about it. I know alot of people are gonna say SWAP but I like this little engine and I think it would be tight to have a fast 1.3 liter turbo

I turbo'd my b3 (so have a few members) It was my favorite setup. I used a t25 and just added a 12:1 fmu and pulled some timing. It loved 10 lbs of boost.

The weakest points you will find right away are......20 yr old gaskets and seals...&..7 inch clutch.

I have some pics and videos somewhere.

Stock mine ran high 17's in th 1/4 mile

        Turbo'd b3 went 15.8 @ 84 mph

        turbo'd sohc b8 (16v) went 14.0 @ 98 mph

        Turbo'd BP has gone 13.33 @ 105 mph

        I say go for it.

I sourced a lot of my parts used from craigslist.

matt dickmyers bulid was pretty extensive, im buliding a b6 SOHC 8V turbo thats going to be pretty quick with not much skill needed to put it together, although the b6T stuff is exotic im sure someone could source stock stuff if they wanted

i really wanna see more SOHC turbo festivas its a really easy job to do and i think these motors have great potential, the size of rods and miata "look a-like" bottom end, iron block etc...im sure with some head modifications + a really good turbo setup and a fresh headgasket these motors are capable of some serious hp.

Buy a ford aspire turbo manifold, cut a chunk of it off and weld on a t25 plate... then sorce a downpipe elbow like i did from a sr20

im using B6T blow off valve, intercooler, charge pipes etc etc and for fuel managment + spark im running a msd boost box, a rising rate FMU and im going to use bluetop miata 1.6L injectors and a prosport wideband along with some misc gauges such as boost, etc etc.

Here are some pics of my mock up, stole the idea from sasquatch i think and im going to give it a try

I know. I was being sarcastic.

I've seen his too. I like seeing what happens when instead of listening to the people that say, "You can't do that, or why would you do that?", people just try it.

I'm that kind. Eyes gots ideas.

ja lol same here=) im readying my festiva. just installed the fuel pressure regulator and ngk iridium spark plugs. also bought a t3/t4 flange to weld to manifold but it looks pretty big.. , what is best turbo i should go, i see that t25 is little and is pretty cheap on ebay. also was wondering will the t3 be too big on 8psi boost?

Lol which one? t3 and t4 flanges are totally different. So is a T25 flange.

                            @ FestyFreak39:

The stock B6T stuff you have is super restrictive...go custom if you can. Especially the turbo intake pipe, we notice a huge difference ditching it for a larger pipe (why i make custom jpipes) the stock BPV is junk too go for a DSM or aftermarket one.
