    • So ive gotten quite a bit of questions on how i made the b3 dizzy work on the twin cam head, its really easy all i did was slot the b3 dizzy and bolted it up to the DOHC head, and as for ECU, im using B6 SOHC electronics and VAF along with B6 SOHC injectors... With some Vaf tuning, ive gotten my AFR's perfect on the twin cam motor.. The only drawback so far is the low rev limiter, ive bounced off of it while there was alot more pull left in her.

Ive asked a mod before if we could sticky a B6DOHC swap under n/a engine swaps but i got turned down

      • Thanks for clarification(s). Now i regret selling my b6t, not that i cant make another with jy pieces! b5t low miles seems a better alternative to high miles oem b6t's with unknown abusive history. A 323GT or capri ecu&harness is safer and better driveability of course but only as safe as the oem parameters. Anyone who likes powah circumvents all of this.

Wow b6 8v injectors or 16v injectors? You have to have an FMU on there don't you?
You really are doing all of us a service. Just the fact of the dohc n/a swap without harness chasing helps so many out there on the fence on what to do.

          Thanks Getnpsi,

Yes im using b6 8 valve injectors and i have an fmu on there... the car runs 100% and idles like a brand new car off boost, afr's are 15ish at cruise and it has plenty of power even though it has a verrry low comp ratio.. On boost its fun as hell. I took a fellow b6T owner for a ride in my car and he said that my b5zT was faster than his stock b6T !!!!!

Surprisingly the festiva trans and swift gti clutch/phantom grip are holding in well...

and yes getnpsi you can swap in a miata, mx3, capri n/a 1.6 with no wiring modifications, and only a passenger side mount.

the b6 dohc went from the hardest swap into the easiest swap IMO.

Sounds good to me! Let me get this right:

-B6 SOHC 8V injectors, VAF and ECU
-DOHC right side engine mount mod
-slotting a B3 distributor to fit the DOHC head?

Is this it, or do I need an FMU too? I don't even know what that is!

            • Fmu is a fuel pressure regulator that adds fuel at a fixed proportion to boost. Not needed for n/a. Just do the vam tuning

Karl, you pretty much got it but there are some restrictions to what b6DOHC swap/etc you want to do.

Im using the b6T intake manifold which makes things kind of easy, because the b3 throttle body bolts onto the b6T intake manifold, and the idle air control valve bolts up to stock b3 plug,

If you wanted to use a miata intake manifold or a b6D manifold, there might have to be some playing around.

Im not sure about the b6D intake manifold because ive never dealt with one before, but i know the miata one could be easily used if you have a friend who can weld a bit of aluminum, all you have to do is cut a chunk out of the intake manifold

both setups have been done before!

How about using an MX-3 head and intake manifold, unbolt the top piece and adapt an Eaton M45 or M62 to it? I know superchargers aren't as popular as turbos in our cars, but it would be a nice setup for an everyday driver

Supercharger? Now you're talking my language! I've wanted a supercharged 4 banger since I was 19 or 20 years old!! There was a really dark blue Omni or Horizon in the Bonanza Steakhouse parking lot one day when I was outside on break. It had a sunroof. I remember thinking, "I want that with a supercharger." This was before the GLH came out. It was around 1980. I'm not sure if the 2.2s were out yet, but a supercharged 1.7 VW would have satisfied me anyway.

Direct Connection did have a 2.2 S/C kit later on. $2000! Back around mid eighties! Needless to say, I asked about them, but couldn't afford to both buy one and have it installed on my first (1986) K car.

                          • It would be a pretty large custom intake needed. I think it was discussed. To try the small Mercedes late 1990s kompressor.

                            • That was why I suggested the M45, its smaller and better suited to a 1.6L. I believe that was what the jackson racing kit used for the miata. If I get the 97 aspire i'm looking into I'll probably attempt this swap.

You gave away my next project!!!!!!!!

im looking to build a festiva for my dad, but a supercharged miata motor...

I have a bell engineering kit that was used for the miata, and so far the only custom work i will have to do is an intercooler+piping, the entire kit bolts on, pulleys and all and im 100% sure it will fit into a festiva, its a hotside supercharger, was called the autorotor.

that wont be until next year though
