  • anyone familiar with EDIS?

A buddy was discussing the escort coil pack and a trigger wheel are adapted to several different vehicles to eliminate their distributer. Has anyone done this to their Festiva?
Im not driving a Festiva because I'm poor. I drive a Festiva because i want to!

Seen that, just didn't have enough info. I didn't see where they actually made it work.

Miata DIS and ford EDIS are *very* different systems. The EDIS is an independant system, and only has minimal communication with the ECU (spark/tach + timing signals) whereas the Miata system is all in the ECU, the ECU fires the coils.

EDIS and Miata CAS/Coilpacks can be adapted to b-series engines, but you need a standalone ECU to manage them. (there was a standalone spark controller at one point, I don't think it ever took off) Or OE engine management conversion (such as Miata ECU into festiva)

To add to this , Ford also has their DIS ignition modules.

Its only found in the V6 SHO (89-95) and the 3.8 Supercharged (T-bird SC Cougar)

Not that , that ford DIS is NOTHING alike the ford e-dis , its 2 separate things.

Someone at madness had this system, but I didn't realize what it was at the time. I with they would chime in.

i read on that miata post that he had to "tweak" the ecu somehow?

either way id love to know how he did that id do it for my festiva in a heartbeat, i have coils from miatas EVERYWHERE!

I'm really thinking of adapting this to my car, its basically a stand alone system. I would like to get a little more insight before I jump into it.

It's a very independent ignition system, but it still needs control, and short of a standalone it's not going to work. There's no way to make it talk to the stock ECU, it's not setup for that. Don't mean to crush any dreams here, but that's the reality. Megasquirt works really well with the ford EDIS system. Going with Miata CAS is a bolt-on affair but a little harder to setup, but also works well with the Megasquirt

The M90's way too big M62 is also too big, but could work. The M45 from the Cooper S is a good match

I found a spark stand alone system called mega jolt. Kinda like the spark only control system of the full megaquirt.

How come you want to eliminate the stock ignition? Just want peace of mind?
                            Jus wondering--

With the 14 psi I'm cramming into my little sohc, I'm not really in a position to go megasquirt just yet. I have a fuel controller but no way to modify the stock timing maps. I have my base timing pulled back to 7deg and still getting a littlespark knock over 5k, the bottom end/out of boost power has declined trying to keep it from detonating up top. I would LOVE to run cops to elliminate the possible change of blowing out the spark, and want to keep it as advanced as possible at the bottom end without having spark knock.
