Yes its a fact, they had G's.They were the evolution of the EGT.Without a Mazda engine.

Why swap bell housings? It's the same tranny internally as the Capri XR2

Just not sure on the axle seals. And I've got a couple ideas on using the EGT ball joint.
The axle seals should be ok, I am still using the KL axle seals with the Capri axles and no issues

So considering the ZX2 already uses a 26 spline diff, the axle diameter should match up to the Capri axles

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

I was actually gonna use the kia 1 piece axles.

Why !?!? The half shaft will minimize torque steer. And the BP with stock tranny and axles had wicked torque steer hard to keep it straight.

In my world, capris are obsolete. I'm looking for alternatives to using anything capri or escort GT. Stuff that when it breaks, I won't be months trying to find a replacement :p

If the housing is the same, and the zx2 bell housing bolts to a B series motor, then I wouldn't have to swap them, but I'm wondering what I might need... it's all just hearsay tho, I will figure it out when I get that far I suppose, it just helps if you have a clue what your doing before hand lol... escort zx2's are a dime a dozen tho..

on car-part.com, the closest merc capri transmission to me is 147 miles away, the next closest being over 200 miles... and good luck finding one in a junk yard around here, they won't even let you in the gates at most places.

What's this bellhousing swap stuff you keep talking about? The bellhousing is integrated as one whole half of the trans, you can't just remove it & replace it with a different model, you achieve the same thing as just using a different trans. There's nothing to be gained by this. Just use the whole transmission?

You are making this way more complicated than it is

I'd go with just stupid if I were you.. why you so mad bro?

I understand the bell housing is integrated, and what I mean by that is to split the case open and swap the front half.. but I do make things more complicated than they are, so I'll quit asking about it until I need to know..next week.

A few of the transmission case half will bolt to different bell housing half.
Some 4sp trans half can be replaced with a 5sp trans half on the same
                    bell housing half.

I'm curious as to why you would want to swap one half to the other.

The 5th gear sides are almost all the same between the gtypes. So what are you trying to gain by swapping the front half?

^^ditto, you really would not gain anything by doing all that work lol

I see what you guys are talking about now, I didn't realize the gearsets are mounted to the front half of the transmission like that.

So the "bell housing" bolt pattern on the zx2 transmissions won't bolt up to my BP motor?

Am I really forced to find a capri g series? What other options are there??!!?!?!?

I looked at car-part.com again and I can get one 60 miles away from a 1991 capri b6t...is that what I need?

The ZX2 trans will NOT bold up, 100% truth!

you can use either a capri XR2 or an 80's 323GT (turbo) 5 speed, or you can use an Escort GT or Protege LX or Tracer LX-E 5 speed trans but you will have to go hydro clutch.

Yea I'm really not looking foward to a hydro setup, I'll be lucky if I ever get a cable transmission in place with this car and that just seems like more of a headache lol.. I need to get something figured out tho, I should have the block back from the machine shop by the end of the week and I really want to get this car put back together as soon as I can.
