  • Hydraulic to manual clutch conversion brackets & cables for G series trans swap.

This post is dedicated to people who are doing engines swap and are looking for a robust transmission which is easier to find and cheaper then the Capei xr-2/mazda 323 gt trans.

What this bracket/kit will allow you to do is a use a later mazda G25m-r and convert its hydrauclic actuated clutch movement into a mechanical movement which will allow you to retain your stock pedal as well as make the clutch set up less prone to failurea from hydraulic failures.

As time goes on its getting harder to find the older G15m-r transmissions due to they where limited production only found in the xr-2 and 323 Gt. With this kit you will be able to source transmissions from 91-95 Escort Gt's, bg Mazda Protege, Mercury Tracer Lts, and 95-97 kia Sephia. Not only are these transmissions more plentiful they are cheaper and have more webbing in the bell housing casting which helps improve strength.

If you are considering a engine swap you might want to consider using one of these transmissions due to these transmission are alot stronger then a weak Festiva trans.

Essentially with this kit it will allow you to take a donor car such as a escort gt, protege ect. and using the engine you will also be able to utilize the transmission and with use of the Kia rio axles you will have a easily sourced reliable swap.

This product is being offered exclusively through the Festiva store. There will be two versions available a complete kit with custom cable or just the bracket. If you decide just to buy the bracket I will include a video tutorial on how to make a custom clutch cable to fit your needs.

The plates are constructed of heavy duty steele plates which have been plasma cut and powder coated in satan black to protect from rusting and corroding.
What you will need to do is cut approximetly a 1/8 slot into your clutch arm so that the cable can pass through and the bolt can rest on the arm allowing the cable to pull on, so it can engage and disengage the clutch.

First video is a introduction and installation.

Second video is how to construct cable part 1.

Question: the center hole at the base of the bracket, what's its purpose? And wouldn't a gusset at the cable support be a good idea to help reduce flex?

Another question, using the g25 will tilt the motor 11* to the front. Will that cause any issues with clearance to the front?

The hole towards the end is for the cable to go through. The 2 ear holes bolt to the case. From my testing there is no flex this is pretty heavy duty. This is thicker then the stock cable bracket so used bigger bolts to secure it down as opposed to the stock fewtiva bracket which uses 2 10mm bolts.

So this plate is twice as thick as the stock/xr2 piece and as i mentioned this uses larger 14mm bolts compared to the stock 12mm. So as far as strenghth i dont see any issues.

The force is mostly on the cable and the pedal which is doing the pulling. The bracket is just holding the sheathing.

From the people who have done the swap i have not heard any clerance issues. I however am not running a crossmember so my engine sits lower.

I only ask because I know from experience that hydro clutches are sensitive to the amount of throw available, and also the factory piece is reinforced via the bent edges.

The other question was about the odd hole with the welded nut.

This is not necessarily true. Yes, the bell housing is clocked relative to the G15, but the rotation of the motor is dependent on how you fab your trans mounts, so you can rotate the engine as much/little as you desire.

Unfortunately there is nothing i can do about throw unless we redesign the pedal assembly or the pivoting point of the clutch arm. However what pressure plate you use can also help deaden the sensitvity. A stock bp or b6 pressure plate will have a lighter pedal then a heaver stage 3 aftermarket.

I ran this set up on Festicul with a stage 3 clutch with no issues. However the car was only daily driven in the summer and my clutch was pretty much on and off and not much in between. If you plan on daily driving the car which most people are i would suggest using a stock bp style clutch if your doing weekend warrior i wouldnt hesitat to do a stage 3.

As for the welded nut that uses a bolt for added reinforcement of the plate. If you get a moment watch the video to get a better idea how it bolts up.

This kit is a cheap and affective solution to running a hydro trans. I ran Damkids setup when he first made it and it bent before i even got a chance to drive the car. This was the solution we came up with without having to re-invent the wheel.

Is this kit or plate conversion available at the festiva store? Can't find it and the price.

Sorry, I haven't been able to get it uploaded yet. Been out of town all last week, and came home to my wife in labor. Hopefully I can get it up shortly. The plates are very nice looking and thick. I wouldn't hesitate running it in my own car which is one the requirement I have for all the parts I sell.
