Yeah it is it's not the optimum 1.8 a 3076 would be a lot better performance wise and people do street a gt35 but that's a built vw 1.8 with 950cc injectors and 20psi barely skimming by on 93 octane and they're getting 500whp Charlie said you'd never need over 250 but who says you have to full throttle right?Originally posted by bhearts View PostBut, you got to be careful when picking out the right turbo. If you run too low off boost you can get surging which is when the impeller speed isn't high enough and the pressurized air tries to go backwards through it. So it's unrealistic to want a 600hp turbo to run at 250hp pressure levels

According to Garrett gt2860r hp range is from 200-400 1.4l to 2.0 it doesn't fit the desire of having a massive turbo under the hood but hey it's only an inch smaller inlet itll still look goodOriginally posted by bhearts View PostIf anything over 250hp is useless, you might as well go all out with a super turbo. I'd rather have too much turbo turned down, than too little turbo turned up

But... If you want to get true, honest advice, this forum requires a sense of race. I don't think anyone here is in to purely putting turbos on for looks. So you'll start getting disinterest in your ideas if you keep pushing into tire shred land.Originally posted by Festiver View PostHaha true

Yeah ive noticed that here and there and I'm not the type of guy to always shred tires it's fun to burn out here and there but that's why I pointed towards the gt2860 perfect turbo for 250 whp where itll be very comfortable as it's made for a range of 200-400 but in all honesty I wasn't aiming for tire shreader I was aiming has the hp to pull hard on any hill at any speed I feel like you can get traction with over 250hp obviously not if you're just full out but there's not any tracks up by me and the roads are ok at best but I'm setting festiver up to be a track ready summer daily emphasise on ready because it'll probably never reach a track of well thoughOriginally posted by bhearts View PostBut... By the way turbo sounds beat looks every time bigger the turbo spooling the louder and deeper it gets I'm 75/25 fun/proper race so I might not fit in a whole lot I'll keep to myself moreOriginally posted by bhearts View PostBut... When I first started building turbo cars I wanted the biggest, baddest shinyest turbo I could fit on my engine. I built an 84 VW Scirocco with a g60 engine and a polished hybrid HX35 hanging off the back. I learned a lot from that car. It was violent, it broke a lot and it was hard to drive. I've built over 100 turbo cars since that car, but I've never forgotten the lessons I learned from building a car to look good with the hood propped open. It's a waste of time. These days I build my cars to be precision driving tools. The experience of driving a well balanced high performance machine is unequal. I'd take 30 laps around Laguna Seca in a dialed in Festy over a night with the hottest girl on earth.
I don't comment like this on any other car forums, because this is the most rewarding drivers car that I've found. I think it's a shame when people modify them without proper understanding and planning. This may seem ridiculous, but that little car you have is capable of being a supercar with very little investment.

Im gonna jump in right here and say that i am in the exact middle on this topic! I want decent spool up and good top end power. I bought a b6t that was ready to go. I didnt like the way it was setup. I loved how it was setup but it was close to junk. So i decided to swap out the turbo for something else that could handle that type of setup. I hope the turbo i choose will do the trick.
My build will see lots of daily driving time (85%) and some autocross time (7 races or so a year).
I can say that my b6t when i got it and had it running decent pulled very very hard. I am used to high HP 1000cc streetbikes so the stock b6t was not as much as i wanted. It was close tho! Im hoping the new setup is fun.
To the OP i have done all the mods to this car of mine that they say to do. I have the tires, the suspension, the motor, the brakes, the steering all of it. Hopefully soon i can do a full review of my car on the road and give you a true understanding of what a fully built festiva is to a YOUNG GUY. Im like you- have read all the builds but have done very small mods in the past. I have taken the steps to my 1st build. Keep an eye on me in the near future!
PS sorry this was so terrible.1990 (LUCIFER 2.0) fully built BP+T with E153, Fueltech FT500, traction control with hopes of 600hp (i drank to much of the KOOL-AID)

Haha I bet it's obvious you know what you're doing tuning a race car but I kinda want to build a monster and experience what it's like but be able to turn it down back to normal levels I don't know why but I love the feeling of a turbo finally waking up at 3k just the instant force I know it's not proper or practical but hey I'll grow up someday and that day I'll swap the turbo to a smaller more practical turbo and turn the boost down to a much more race oriented 230-350 whp and dial in the car to be better more organized more refined but I still am young and want a monster to scare women and children with a turbo that doesn't spool till 3k and a super charger that just helps for prespool <- practical no smart eh no waste of time and money definitely but if time comes I grow up unbolt the turbo bolt a new one on a few twists of a knob and a retune and it'll be a uniform with the festiva race communityOriginally posted by Advancedynamix View PostWhen I first started building turbo cars I wanted the biggest, baddest shinyest turbo I could fit on my engine. It's kinda like saying. "I'm going to buy an R1 and swap the engine for an 883 sportster engine because it'll sound cool and do better wheelies". Its not as easy as just turn it down. Or even swap it out for that matter. I have built my car using the stock crap as well as some ebay junk and a bunch of stuff others have said to be good. Heck my car my be worth less then the bird poop on it now. But im learning just like you will. I have built it with the mindset that i will still replace the turbo later on once i have a custom exhaust manifold built up. So my car is a 2 part build. 1st part is now. 2nd part comes later on once im bored and have cash again. Just know its not easy to just turn it down! It can be done but i would plan to build one way then when you need a change rebuild! Or thats my thinking for now.Originally posted by Festiver View PostHaha I bet it's obvious you know what you're doing tuning a race car but I kinda want to build a monster and experience what it's like but be able to turn it down back to normal levels I don't know why but I love the feeling of a turbo finally waking up at 3k just the instant force I know it's not proper or practical but hey I'll grow up someday and that day I'll swap the turbo to a smaller more practical turbo and turn the boost down to a much more race oriented 230-350 whp and dial in the car to be better more organized more refined but I still am young and want a monster to scare women and children with a turbo that doesn't spool till 3k and a super charger that just helps for prespool <- practical no smart eh no waste of time and money definitely but if time comes I grow up unbolt the turbo bolt a new one on a few twists of a knob and a retune and it'll be a uniform with the festiva race community
