Nope, I'm the idiot who ran out of gas! :?
A two cylinder Festiva might work well for in town with the rear seat and all extra weight out. May make a nice little runabout.
Dave just wants to be different!

i still think it'll be a neat idea, cuz i'm wandering how much better milage you could get out of a festy
1988 323 Station Wagon - KLG4 swapped
1988 323 GT - B6T Powered
2008 Ford Escape - Rollover Survivor
1990 Festiva - First Ever Completed KLZE swap (SOLD)
If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

Yep.
It's out of Lux and has a bad head gasket and over 200K miles, but it ran just fine. It only leaked coolant to the exterior, not to the cylinders.
Lemme know when you want to cart it off.

Well, I was just now out in the garage trying to figure out how to attach a hoist to the ceiling, and had a minor epiphany:
On my blue festiva, I removed spark plugs 1 & 4, disconnected injectors 1 & 4, and started it up. It ran! Louder than hell with the two open spark plug holes, but it runs smooth. Wouldn't idle without holding the pedal down quite a ways (expected), but I reved it up to about 4k rpm and it seemed fine. I think it's going to work :-)

Dave, sometime this week should do. Maybe Wednesday?
I have a crane to get it in the back of your car at my place. If we have to, we could take my crane to your place, too. If you can get a third person though, that might work to remove it at your garage. Taking the head off and transporting it in two pieces may work.

I picked up a complete engine with 5 speed tranny attached recently. I managed to wrestle it down the ramps of my utility trailer by myself  I'd recommend an extra person to help though!1986 Comp Prep SVO Mustang(1 of 83) Four cylinder turbo! (Think first Fox body "R" model!)
1995 F-150 Extra Cab and it was free!
1991 Festiva L, Surf Blue with A/C
1995 Jeep Cherokee 2wd 5 speed 4.0 and it was free!
1993 Aqua Festiva and it was cheap!
1994 Brake Swap and it was cheap!
1969 Ford F100 Big Block Ranger and it was free! (coming 2/12)

Gotta love Harbor Freight - I'm now fixed up with a 2000 lb hoist and a 1000 lb engine stand for a total of about $55! I'm ready :-)

The inline four won't work very well at all with only 2 cylinders firing
Three different approaches come to mind:
1) Have some split weights machined to take the place of the missing rods, maybe machine some stuff off those counterweights too (Best choice, probably)
2) Drill big holes in the top of the pistons of the unused cylinders and put them back in (The hillbilly approach - strangely attractive somehow)
3) Use 1 & 2 or 3 & 4 instead. It would be balanced, but the power delivery would be kinda rough.
