No power and a slushbox? I think the 5 speed would be better, at least you could rev it up to get moving. And you're doing this for economy, a 5 spped is much more economical to run...

1995 F-150 Extra Cab and it was free!
    1991 Festiva L, Surf Blue with A/C
1995 Jeep Cherokee 2wd 5 speed 4.0 and it was free!
1993 Aqua Festiva and it was cheap!
1994 Brake Swap and it was cheap!

Yeah, everything about the 5 speed would be better, but I hate to screw up my favorite car

Besides, we're in "proof of concept" stage here. If it works worth a damn in the auto, then we'll know it will work better in a manual. And if it gets say 45 to 50 mpg with the auto, we'll know the manual will be even better. But right now, I'm not at all confident that it will even be drivable.

Also, the yellow car's engine could stand to be gone over. Leaks like a sieve, clicks & clacks when cold, etc.

i'd stick w/ your least favorite then. i know i love my 5 speed and glad it's not an auto.

reread my post today. didn't come out how i wanted. what i meant was put it in the auto so you have your manual to drive around while messing w/ the other car.

I like the yellow plugs!!! haha... everything about it is so different, and yet so cool...

i hope you get it running i agree on putting it in the auto too, at first i was thinking no way. no power + slushbox means you probobly will take all day to reach 55mph (if at all), but if your engine could use a little go-over and you want to keep the 5spd on the road i guess it makes sense.

wish i could be there when you try to crank it over for the first time we'll need a vid of this, you know!!

I am loving this project. It is like my daily soap opera. "I wonder if Dave G has made any progress, I need to check it out". The whole idea is fascinating. I guess it would be "As The 2 Cylinder Cranks"
Currently Festiva-less. Please don't hate me

OK, today's episode: More "real work" than anticipated today, so only worked on the 650 for a couple hours. Got everything disconnected, engine is hanging on by 2 bolts. Tomorrow I shall take the car down off the jack stands and pull the old engine. I anticipate another day to clean engine compartment (crud all OVER the place) and swap missing parts over to the 2 cylinder engine, which means I should be installing Thursday afternoon, and maybe trying to start it Friday sometime.

what are you using to clean your engine bay? I am thinking of taking my engine out and cleaning mine since the tranny is already out. Mine is a lot more dirty though... I love the Yellow btw...
