yes... i cut almost all of the coils out of the spring, and just left the "C" as thats all i needed...
STOCK this spring is about 3-4 coils.. and free length is about 1.5 inches....
but, when installed STOCK, it compressed so that these 3-4 coils are all touching... compressed to a little over 1/4" or so.... well, with the new shifter the ball is bigger, so the white piece that goes on top of the ball only needed about 1/8" for the spring, but now all 3-4 coils would not fit..... so i cut the spring (in the picture above it is dark dark green) so that i just had one "C"... and it fit in the 1/8" (the wire diameter approximately)
        I hope this makes sense...

Edit: the spring holds the white piece down against the top of the shifter ball...

Not much work involved. I like it. I have them in both of my Festivas.

I got one from eBay for about 10 dollars shipped, took about 15 minutes to install it, and in my opinion, the car should have come with it from the factory. Although the paint does chip off easily, i have been slamming through gears since i got it and haven't had any problems with it. If you want one that is tougher get one made of billet aluminum instead of pot metal.

So what wrong with the one from fms? I would think if more people bought their stuff from them they would have stuff more readily available and maybe increase the products they sell.

Those are all over ebay all the time. They are all pretty much the same. I think mine was $0.99 or $1.99 buy it now on ebay.....and mine is even a knock off BRIDE shifter, which I wasn't expecting!

So, are you saying that this isn't worth it?
what about this one? seems to be cheaper. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/98-01...%3A15%7C39%3A1

Here's the company I got mine from...

They also sell shift boots, for around the same price. I was also surprised with the shift boot because it's real leather and has the BRIDE Holding Monster logo embroidered on it. Pretty good quality for the price IMO
