  • visors too wide!

That Suzuki Esteem at the junk yard had mirror mounts very similar to the Festiva. I brought them home and found that the hole spacing on the main mount was identical to the Festiva. Unfortunately, they did not have as much of an angle as the Festiva visors. They hit the mirror. Too bad though. They had mirrors in them and they telescoped on the arm. See for yourself.

hmm, with how nice those are, I'd be tempted to just move the mirror everytime i want to put them down..

Remove the festiva mirror, and get a universal one that you can mount on the windshield... Possible? Those would be nice to have if that would work.

        solid core

They are made of a solid core material. The stock Festiva visor is made of some kind of fiber and tends to break apart and go mushy with handling.
I am still searching for a lighted vanity mirror combo that fits. I am still waiting for a Mini cooper to show up.

Maybe an old Corvette or Volkswagen mirror that mounts on the dash would do the trick?

Aspire mirrors are pretty good substitutes, and you can use the hook thing that comes with it if you drill a hole. The Aspire mirrors cover more of the area in the middle, whereas the Festy ones just leave that open to the sun.

            kia spectra

A thousand apologies. The car I took the mirror and visors from was the 2002 Kia Spectra. No wonder the engine layout and pulley tensioning system was so similar to the Festiva! That's because that's who made the Festivas in the first place!

is the area to the right of the mirror solid or plyable? I may be able to modify them.
the Festy ones are a solid wire all the way around sanwiched between tow peices of foam covered in vinyl

                solid

They are solid. It appears to be foam in place with a very dense urethane.
The covers are not removable. I got another set the other day out of a different car. The passenger side had a mirror the drivers had a storage loop for receipts, etc. The out side was smooth and the inside was a little fuzzy.
Even though they had the same backcut the Festiva has, they were too wide.

                  mini visors

The mini visors are the right size. However, the mounting flange is larger and oriented on an angle for the "A" pillar. Which means, that there is lots of work to be done to adapt them.

I have decided to let the visors hit the rear view mirror.
Too much work to peel off the vinyl, cut out the metal track from a Spectra visor, shorten it, implant it in the Mini visor, then have leather covers stiched back on$$$.

I start by discarding the AMP/Tyco electrical connector and snapping off the plastic mount. As you can see it is tapered and was essentially a one way install and snapped into place for a tight swivel.

Next thread, I hope to drill out the metal rods from the Festiva mounts and prepare to install them. The Mini visors light up beautifully. I have to make them work.

                    dimensions

The Festiva sun visor rod is exactly 8mm diameter. The rod end is straight and relies on friction to not come off. I had to use a pin punch to get it out of the plastic mount.

The Mini cooper rod end on the other hand is tapered. Great news. It tapers from 9.64 to 9.1 mm over a distance of 10.44 mm

A combination of taper pin reamers will be necessary to cut the plastic out.
First a #6 taper pin reamer, followed by a #7.

The Festiva mirror mount shank is deeper than the Mini. I will first have to cut about .4" off the Festiva mount

Since the mount must snap down over an 8.6mm end, I will also have to make two kerf cuts perpendicular to each other on the end.

Next post will let you know if I the surgery was successful.

Sorry, when I said "mirrors" here, I meant visors.

to go back to original posting... if you heated up the mounting plastics and pulled them off of the posts... wouldnt you be able to bend them to the correct angle?
I know its a piece of crap but im still faster...and its 100% legal!!!!!

                            too much of an angle

There is too much of an angle to heat and bend. So, I started with a #6 spiral flute taper pin reamer. It was new and cut the plastic just like butter. The base of the hole must be .387". It can only be done with a #7 reamer.
Two reamers have to be used because the original hole was straight and not tapered like the mini arm.

The goal is to have lighted vanity mirrors in my Festiva.

kozak kicks butt. Ive seen engines rebuilt that had no instruments used, and here he is using on his sun visors.
