  • Delrin shifter knob - calling eurotiva!

I thought about replacing my shifter knob with one made out of Delrin.

Greg, I remember you saying you have some Delrin or access to get some. Would you be interested in making some knobs? I'm looking for a cylindrical one, roughly 1.5" in diameter, 3.5" long, rounded top edges and with the bottom machined to mate with the center console shifter boot (like the stock LX knob). How hard would that be to make?

I replaced the stock shifter with a Civic B&M-copy short shifter and it was much better than the stock one but too short (in height). I added some length using a coupler nut and threaded rod. It is much taller now, making it more comfortable to drive. However, it would look much better with a different shifter knob.

I'll get on it tonight. It wouldn't take long. Call me when you get a chance.

p.s. I had the same problem with my pacesetter shifter and I went and got a dsm pistol grip shift knob.

I actually made some for Nissans. Like 6" long to get the knob closer to the steering wheel.

          I'm home.

Oscar do you happen to know the thread size/pitch you will need?

This is a rough sketch of what I had in mind. I'm at work and left my cell at home so I can't call you.

                Bushings

Greg, were you able to make up some Delrin shifter bushings.

Guys I found that it was easier to buy nylon bushings from Lowes and shave .030 off of the outside then press them in and drill the proper hole for the shifter bolt. I can shave the outside but it can be done with a cordless drill too.

Oscar I've got it chucked up just gotta start cutting. I should be able to do it tonight.

I found a guy that wants to trade my machine for a cnc mill. I might be getting rid of the lathe soon

How much for a finished set shipped out the door?

That's the hard part. one of the joints in the shifter linkage is a pin ,that is pressed on one end. To properly install bushings, you must grind pin, remove pin, replace bushings, reassemble, and tack weld the end of the pin so it doesn't come out. The other 4 are simple. My problem with making them on my lathe, is that it's too big to make those tiny parts.

I can take .030 off of the out side, but they must still be pressed in (hammer) and then the hole drilled out.

The bushings are $0.92 for 2 @ lowes.

I think the ones from corksport for a capri are the same too.
