Not sure if in right area to post it in but please move it needed.

Ok I have a 92 l that the key has broken off in the ignition i can remove it no problem but have to start the car with a screw driver. I don't like searching for the screw driver when it falls of the dash so i would like to do a push button start. What do i need to tap into to control power? I want to leave the key in and on so it don't lock the wheel. And have a toggle switch control all power. So where is the main wire that controls all the power? Like should i tap into it at the fuse block or out under the hood? What guys think
    Thanks

look at the b6t swap thread (sticky) i beleive it shows what wires to tap into for the ignition wires, they are right under the steering colum.

or u can go buy an ignition/ lock set and install them. it would only take about 2 hours to do them all. to get the ignition out u will need to cut a notch for a flathead screw driver to get the screws, when they are installed the tops break off so that it cannot be removed easly. its pretty simple and if its worth fixing then i would fix it rigt and do all new locks and ignition.

don't have other half of key.
I do know where the wires are. And it take like 20 mins to swap the column but it be cool to have push button and it be easier no keys to carry.
Also the car has hit a pole and is destroyed so no one will steal it and don't have any thing in it to worry about any way.

So if i leave the key in the on position and tap into the main 12 volt constant at the ignition switch with a toggle switch would that stop the car from having power when i turn the switch to the off position and leave the key on?

With gas prices steadily going up I could use another and you are only about 3 hours away I could never steal a man's Festiva if it didn't have a key.

Not to sound like a jerk or anything, but if it is in that bad of shape and you have 4 others to drive, why not just use it for parts for those?

Not a bad idea... lol... :thumbright: If I had the space, I would have a dozen of them. I only have 1 at my place now, and it's down at the moment. My other one is at my dads. He has a truck that gets like 12mpg, so I'm letting him use it til he finds something else.

It is all stock and still going and the others have parts missing to make them complete this one needs nothing. And does better gas mileage than my bp car.

the passenger door lock cylinder has a key code on the back of it. you can take that to any licensed locksmith and get a key made.

the problem you'd have then is getting the broken key out of your ignition. Unless you can get the core out of the ignition and take that to the locksmith as well.

you don't have to cut notches...even on your first try it should only take about 2 minutes to get those screws loose enough to hand twist them out and have the whole thing off. just take your trust flathead screwdriver and a hammer and place the screwdriver blade at about 4-5 o'clock and angled and start hittin. make a small groove and work with that all the way around.
