  • 93 grill mod....

i had the idea for a while now, im sure someones done it before, but i wanted to play around with mine, since it was cracked and what not, but here is what i have so far...

    03 Chevy S-10 Extreme-4.3
92 Ford Festiva GL-to be determined
    92 Buick Roadmaster Estate Wagon-5.7

I can't say I remember seeing that type of mod to a grille, nice work :thumbright:

    1988 323 Station Wagon - KLG4 swapped
    1988 323 GT - B6T Powered
2008 Ford Escape - Rollover Survivor

1990 Festiva - First Ever Completed KLZE swap (SOLD)

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

Yes, nice job. I thought of doing the same with my '93 but wasn't sure how it would look. I've been "on the fence" between doing what your doing or doing the early grill mod and adding Stainless mesh in the opening. Can't wait to see yours...that will help me make up my mind!!

FWIW my grille is only held on by the 4 clips across the top of the grille, when i first got my festiva, the grille was only being held on by the centre screw, so it's not like every single mounting point is necessary

Those clips can be hard to get loose sometimes. If you have one clip per side, and the screw, or another clip in the middle, you shouldn't loose your grille.

ha, thanks damkid, blkfordsedan, ill figure it out a little further in... but onto the pics

main idea, this is about were the festiva emblem will be, and with the side pieces taped on

close ups of the pieces taped on

                        and them fiberglassed up

and figure since im doing it i will fix the crack in it and make it usable

tomorrow will be working on the contours of the center, its slow going because im usually horrible with fiberglass but this is going pretty good, any other comments are welcome if there is enough interest when im done im sure it could be stickied

Oh yeah; looking good! I haven't seen this type of mod yet, so I think yours is original.

I haven't worked with FG yet, but I can imagine that if you mess up, you just cut some more, or sand it down, and redo, re-sand, repaint. Could you tell you got more comfortable with the work as you went on?
