          HMM

I know this is an old post but I wonder?
          (IMHO)
          Ruining a good handling car?
If that were true then the car created by many professional engineers in Korea and Japan should not be altered from stock at all.
Building a race car depends on the type of racing a person is doing with it.
Building a car for one purpose will detract somehow from it's uses for other purposes.
I wouldn't call a lowered, hard springed, stiff suspension an improved setup for driving in rain or snow. the stock setup may be better for that.
I think what is being done here is "customizing" not Improving.
Customizing, takes the car from one "use", stock being an all around use, to another use, autocross, road race, drag race or whatever race.
We "Customize" a car to our tastes and interests, not to make it better.
The best a car can be built from the factory is "to specification" by trained engineers and therefore the best is bone stock.
After that it is all about taste and interest
          it runs so sweet

I've always been one to appreciate aesthetics and lines on a car . . . the wheels have to fit and look right with the car . . . But to each his own . . .

However I will say this as I used to be a ASE certified mechanic. To Lift a Vehicle is far worse on wear and tear of main components then lowering. As is has been said lowering gives better performance, Lifting just gives more off balance. I have to warn you as well if you increase your tires that much your spedo will read about 20 miles higher. the increased angle will severely wear bearings and apply more torque to the frame at witch being a festiva has a Uni-body so this could incur twisted body panels and misaligned doors. The upgraded motor will not really help much because you will be adding more weight to the car . . . instead of lessening. I Highly advise you install a roll cage for your safety if this car is to be driven more than on a trailer and off a trailer. These cars already have a tippy center of gravity and like said a short wheel base, with a narrow stance and short wheel base by jacking the cars center of gravity up even as little as a foot you basically guarantee a roll-over in any sort of higher speed cornering.

But I digress . . . its your dream and what are we if we don't have dreams . . . so I leave you with this for inspiration . . . (the tire shop down the road in Nashville had one like this)

              opinions, we all have one.

I agree with the technical reasons not to raise the festiva, except for the speedo reading 20 mph. faster.
I like the suggestions to use a body on a tracker, sidekick, or Samurai chassis.
If its raised it may as well have more than one wheel drive. But again, it is customizing, not necessarily improving.
Glad to see another one comment on dreams, I used to ask the question, "if ya ain't got yer dreams then what ya got?".

After I get wy show Festiva done, we (my body/paint guy and I) were thinking about doing a Festiva/Bronco II Rough Truck to run at all the local County Fairs. I have a good parts Festy and my buddy has a good parts Bronco II. HMMMMMM!
