  • Picture Proof EGT/Protege LX/Protege 4x4 Front Calipers Work

Ok so I was changing my front brakes before my inspection and I decided that was too boring so I grabbed my 4x4 protege front spindles and brakes and took the calipers off to do some "experimenting." Here are my results:

Stock Aspire Caliper and Brakes on Stock Rotors:

Here are the Stock 4x4 Protege (same as Protege LX and Escort GT) Calipers BOLTED on to the Aspire spindles, with Aspire rotors (I didn't feel like drilling out the set screws for the rotors to put on the Protege Rotors)

Yes the do Bolt right up! The only down side is that you can't use them with the stock 13's you will need at least a 14" rim for clearance, which is why they aren't installed on my car right now.

so other than having to re-drill the set screw holes in the rotor, do the rotors fit just as well? i'm assuming the protege's bolt patterns the same as the aspire?

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

I know the 4x4 ones have different angles for the Lower control arms, and the tie rod end connects higher, so those ones aren't bolt on, but I suspect the fwd ones might, I may be getting a pair soon to find out.

The rotors are the same pattern as the aspire. The drilling is because the pan head bolts that hold the stock ones in place are seized. No modification necessary to do the swap to the bigger calipers and rotors

I do not know if the flex lines bolt on or not, I wasn't about to pull it apart if I couldn't use them right away. They look to be the same, but you never know, I'll do some part number research on the banjo bolts and see what that turns up.

The Protege Lines are an inch shorter and have the same diameter banjo bolt so I would assume that the aspire flex lines will work.

You have rear disk brakes on your car?

How did you mount up the rears?

Stock Aspire Rotor 9.25 inches (new one for my dad's 5 door automatic)

Protege Rotors 10.25 inches (a little surface rust from sitting, but still good shape)

                          Size Comparasin, Centers Aligned

As you can see they are much larger, and bolt right up, so why not do it?

I am planning on making some adapter plates over the summer like the ones Stevo made on the old forum and taking orders and selling kits so you can bolt on rear disk brakes. Keep in mind I won't be able to work on this till May, but I WILL be doing it.
