ok, so I havent visited the forum for a bit as I have been busy. What year protege did you get those calipers from? (I have a 96 aspire i am interested in putting bigger brakes on) looked into new calipers from a 96 EGT and they are pretty cheap, if I can swap to a bigger brake set up, omg I would be happy.

ha! I was plotting this swap for a while but now im thinking about the 323 brakes instead since I got some sweet 323 13" steelies. I actually did all the same research a few weeks ago and came up with the same conclusions. Its eerie how we all think alike. My main concern was brake pressure from the tiny festiva master cyl. The piston bore is larger I believe so I would assume it needs a bit more pressure. Would that cause a spongy feel or premature master failure?

the only thing you have to worry about is wheel cylinder bore. the bigger calipers fill up with brake fluid and dont affect the master cylinder. the wheel cylinder size is the main concern. because they expand and contract with the master cylinder it is best to use the master cylinder and wheel cylinder from the same kind of car. all the bore sizes on the calipers should be roughly the same size and wouldn't adversely affect pedal feel.Neil

Sorry to kick a dead dog but im slowly trying to piece together my aspire swap and I was wondering. Since I need aspire calipers to complete my swap and dont have the cash for them, could I just get a set of protoge calipers and rotors and be done with it. These calipers and rotors coming from a fwd car?
If so Im gonna run to the junk yard right now!89L build thread http://www.fordfestiva.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=36422

Protege LX/Escort GT/4wd Protege calipers and aspire rotors will bolt up to aspire knuckles. you can use up to a 10" rotor, but the escort GT ones are 10 1/4 and will rub on the caliper.89 Festiva L Carby 4 Speed... RIP. Evicted and Scrapped. I HATE MY FAMILY
