using a press i pressed the bearing races in my new drum hubs and through a creative use of an ammco brake lathe i cut off the extra section of the drum and machined down the hub to fit the escort rotor. took about an hour but the hub turned out nice and thick! i did notice that the oem centering lands on the front of the aspire drums are slightly smaller than the center hole of the escort rotor. im gonna shave about a milimeter off of the face of my newly made hub tomorrow to create a wider center land to keep the rotor from being off center (like a locomotive). i have photos but im posting from my winmo phone and it wont let me put them on. thats what ive got so far.

The brake lathe i used is one we have at the ford dealer i work at. was a standard ammco type thats been around for a long time and is used in many shops everywhere. installed my drum on the lathe just like i was going to machine it normally but with the face of it facing closest the lathe (reversed) to keep the runout to a minimum. i used the rotor machining attachment to "cut" (machine) the drum off of its' hub and turned it into basicly a donut. then i used the drum brake machining attachement and reversed it so the bit was facing the side edge of my hub and then proceeded to machine it down until it was the proper size to fit inside of the escort rotor. i uploaded some photos in to my album from last night. i planned on doing both but i ran out of time due to someone waiting for me to go to dinner.

well i got the other drum machined down into a hub and i took my spindle off on the left rear. i took some measurements and made a template of the spindle mounting holes and the center hole. i cut my 1/2" plate down into two 5 1/4" wide by 12" sections. once i get the spindle holes drilled ill mount it back up and get the spacing of the caliper.

disaster struck yesturday. i went to press in new wheel studs in my hubs and it turns out my holes were slightly too small because the first one stopped and the shop presses pedal got stuck on and kabloooey, my newly machined cast iron hub cracked in half. so now ive got another drum coming from rockauto. sumbetch,. sounded cool... ( Craaaack...) atleast and i had safety glasses on. kinda ruined my day though...

heres a question. anyone know of an actual difference between the aspire brake pads and an egt front brake pads? im thinking the sizing is the same but it is a difference in a compound or is it just a different part number to indicate a priceing difference.

from what i remember they are a bigger/longer pad so there is more contact on the rotor...

i was just curious as i had ordered some akebono ceramics for my aspire and was wondering what the difference was because the egt ones were 15 bucks more but i want sure if they would fit in the pins on the aspire mt caliper. once i get back on the egt brake swap i will put on the correct egt calipers in the front. i was just wondering so i didnt buy a set of pads only to change them later. ive got some jy escort calipers so ill compare when i pick up my pads today.
