Best wheels for speed

Should I go down to 13s or stay at 14s? I run 175/65/14 at the moment and plan on going to 185/55/14 unless a 13 would be better for track times? Input?

Simply put, 195/45 R14 Toyo Proxes T1-R. If you want track times, those are the tires you want. (On 14" wheels, of course, but try and find a mesh wheel)

Try Bogart wheels, probably lightest racing wheel you'll find.

At speeds up over 190mph the moon disc is good for 8mph gain.

At festiva speeds something light for the least amount of unspring weight.

And a dot race tire like t1r, or 888, there are good race tires in 14 cuz of the miata guys

Yep, see what the Miata guys run. Some run 13s with really wide rubber.

For a relatively cheap setup, get some Miata seven spokes and put the Proxes on them. I bought a set of solid spokes (11.6 pounds each, IIRC) for $60! Just be patient and keep looking for deals.

Bogart road race wheels aren't meant for the street. They make them as light as they can, so they don't like pot holes.

I've also read in multiple places not to use racing wheels in regular driving. The pothole issue makes sense. Even the lighter regular road wheels are built with actual pothole and wear issues in mind, while racing wheels will be inspected regularly and taken out of service when they develop any problems. Plus, if they fail, it's on a course while wearing a helmet in a roll bar equipped car, etc.

I'd definitely stay away from true racing wheels. An extra pound or two is worth keeping your car on the road without wheel failure.

IMO, the absolute lightest, quickest wheel/tire combo would be Honda VX wheels (13 X 5" and 9 pounds) with some 175/50-13s on them. Light weight and reduced diameter for a lower final drive ratio to the road would make these a nice around town combo for B3, B6 and B8 cars. BP power would probably result in too much wheel spin. (Just a guess, mind you.)

My wheels are 12-lb gold mesh 14"x6.5" Enkei wheels found as an option on 94-96 Toyota Corollas. They'd probably be in junkyards.

I think the 15" phone-dial Mini Cooper wheels would look awesome on a Festiva. They only weigh 12 pounds and nobody has done it yet! They are 15"x5.5" with a 4x100mm bolt pattern so you need to have the Aspire brake swap. You can find them on Craigslist all the time really cheap.
