Started working on the motor today before work. Replaced water pump, timing belt and valve cover gasket (after I paint the valve cover), got it cleaned and prepped to paint. Ran into a snap with the a/c pulley,. going to need to find one for a V belt. Also switched frt motor mounts and got the ac brackets mounted on the block. Hopefully install new clutch set and tranny to motor tomorrow. Also pulled the plugs out of the spare tire well and mopped the bare interior with hot water and bleach. Its smelling much better. Ill start putting the interior back in when I get the chance. Oh yeah still have to splice the injector harness.

Painted my valve cover today during my 12 hour weekend. Looks pretty good considering I had it in the driveway drying in the sun and forgot about it and drove over it with the Escort. Then a miracle occurred while I was waiting for the paint to dry again. The miracle, I successfully was able to remove all the bolts holding the heat shield to the exhaust manifold without breaking any. It was divine intervention. Now the heat shield will get some high temp paint as well. Pulled all the plugs they looked nice and gray and even.

hey Fresh, if you haven't planned on it already, I'd replace your O2 sensor. I can see your's is bent, and that means the Zirconium cell inside is definately damaged.

Thanks Monsoon ! Ive worked on these cars long enough now to know what usually goes bad with them. Im trying to fix everything that could and usually does go bad while Im building it. Its cheaper in the long run. I hate rework later when its easier to do right in the first place. Changing a $10 output seal later is a lot more work than changing it while the tranny is out, for example. Spend the extra time and a few extra bucks and be done with it when you're done.

Thanks FB71, thats what Im talking about.

Now Im going to look up Zirconium, you messing with me ?? 8^)

Oh Yeah, A question I wanted to ask. Will a starter off a manual festiva work on the 1990 B6e motor off a manual car ?

If your still using the festiva transmission I think it should still work... people still use the festiva starter when they swap B6Ts and use the festiva trans

yes. Just use the flywheel and clutch from the B3.

                              Hey Marcus,

Great job so far! I should have done a photo essay when I did my swap. My trouble is I get really focused on the job at hand and by the time I remember to take any pictures I'm way too deep in!

                              Keep those updates coming.

                              Cheers

                                Thanks Ian !

Jim you were right about the Zirconium cell being damaged. I removed the oxygen sensor and some of that Zirconium stuff leaked out on my boot. J/K
I priced a "universal" sensor at the parts store for about $20. One just like the one I have would be $46. I pulled the one out of the old B3 and it looks just like it ( except straight ) so I think Ill use it if it will work. Do they go bad usually if they arent damaged ? Cant recall ever changing one.
