Installed a white faced tach cluster and a new speedo tonight.
I switched out my garage light bulbs, oh my god what a difference!
I had 100 watt equivalent compact florescent bulbs and I switched them out for 200 watt equivalent compact florescent bulbs in the "daylight" spectrum.
Its amazing how much brighter it is out there, and they are still only really drawing like 42 watts per bulb.Last edited by big_ty2003; 12-30-2009, 11:40 PM.

Oh. Is that the engine from Detroit? I've seen alot worse. Its not that bad. What all do you plan on doing to the motor? I'm just doing seals on mine, but I got to hear it run first. Only thing I wish I would have taken a bottle of motor flush to pour in while he ran it. That way I would have to do it on the new seals.Last edited by David88; 01-03-2010, 01:31 AM.'89L 110k mi. supposedly the guy who I bought it off of heard it run.
I would live to have it refreshed/rebuilt:
block dipped and painted, maybe honed if needed
bpt gtx pistons & rods (already have)
bpt gtx intake mani (already have)
bpt gtx cams (still want/need)
Eibach evs valve springs
Water Pump
oil pump
gaskets & seals
racing timing belt
ARP head & main studs
maybe adjustable cam gears if I can get them used or cheap enough.
460cc injectors

True words " When they're gone they're gone"
Originally posted by David88 View PostLooks like a deal to me. I have those pics in my email too. I was going to look at it last leek, but I didn't get up there. Not the greatest cell phone pics, but even so I'm thinking 135K. No way to know for sure. Just that it should pretty darn clean. The odometers those cars returned to zero at 100k. Still not bad. See if he'll take $150. That what I paid for mine + computer and I listen to it run right before we took it out of the car. Odo said 11k, but then it wasn't really 11k or even 111k it had to be 211 by the body. Then I noticed junkyard type markings on things on the motor so who really knows. Point being I guess, They don't make them any more and where ya gonna get one? When they're gone they're gone, and if someone took the time too save it it must have been good. You should get it.
You know that is true.
Junk yards around here at this time have a good number of Escort GTs.
Would say in another two years they won't be but one once and awhile.
Most yards here where you pull it your self charge just under 150.00 for a BP engine.
Did find another yard that the price quoted was 100.00.
If I had unlimited funds would be buying all I could to see that they don't end up crushed.

Not sure if the Escort GTs have already run their course up here, or if they just haven't made it in yet, but I almost never see an Escort of any kind, let alone a GT, in the yards around here.

I'm a tech for a euro import shop and see examples like the one above all the time. All bmw engines since the introduction of VANOS (variable cam timing) NEED syn oil thats changed regularly! Seems a lot of ppl who drive those cars are morons. I used to hate the cars, but the v8's are pretty tough and I'm now looking for a black e38.

Help me decide about rebuild
So I am still trying to figure out a game plan for this swap...
Parts I already have:
BPT GTX pistons & rods (what I read should be good for up to 250-300hp)
BPT Intake
SRT-4 intercooler
Saab T3 Turbo (Has a little shaft play probably could use a rebuild)
Denso 460cc injectors
BP engine of unknown condition (never heard or saw it run myself but the person I bought it from says he did)
I want to do the least expensive boost worthy engine rebuild possible. What should I have done at minimum to the engine to ensure it can handle 250-300 hp?
I was thinking:
Head gasket
valve seals
Front & Rear main seals
Arp head studs & main studs
Water pump
Oil pump
have the GTX pistons installed w/ new rings
GTX intake installed
How does that sound?Last edited by big_ty2003; 02-06-2010, 11:01 AM.
