The guy I got it from took it apart about 2 years ago. He drove it within a year before that. The tank was why it got sold to him.

Thanks for that info Paul, I took a look at the dash as well and I didn't see any cracks, warpage or anything wrong with it, is there some kind of common problem with the dashes in these cars?

-Finish cleaning tank
-Bolting up remaining drivetrain
-Fire it up and have some fun

Any plans to refurbish the exterior/interior? I can't tell if the red paint is really fried or just in serious need of a good cut polish and wax, hard to say! Red and black is the best two-tone, especially on these puppies. I look forward to seeing what you come up with... loving the rapid build, Chris! That interior looks like a cakewalk with a few hours, a bottle of armour-all, a vacuum, and a Clapton album.

Basically ya, just get the remaining drivetrain parts back together (still need to collect a few parts though) and once it's back together, I just plan to get it on the road as is (with clean up of course) have some fun with it then later I'll look into a re-paint if the paint won't buff back to a shine

is it too hard to find a brand new gas tank? dont you think that the rust will come back?

There were only 1100 of these cars sold on the whole continent. The gas tanks are pretty rare. The p.o. Was considering a fuel cell.

what about electrolosys? It should pull the rust off of it. Its worth a shot atleast.

Thats actually not rust on the inside, its like a sludge and a member on clubprotege suggested i get the tank dipped, thats probably what i'll do since there's no way i will get it 100% clean on the inside

You have a 323 GTX fuel tank tucked away somewhere?

one tip, get some small steel balls, like the ones inside ballbearings or the ones used in air guns. Put them inside the tank and add a gallon of Varsol or white spirits, put some duck tape in the top hole where the pump and the sending unit goes.
Shake and shake and shake and shake.
You`ll see the crap that will come out of that tank. I have done it to my 1978 suzuki lj80 with great results.
