  • xaero_81's B6T/G25MR Build Thread

This is the start of a likely very long build thread. I have been buying parts cars, stripping them of what I need and storing everything for a B6T/G25MR/Aspire swap.

I will be adding prices to everything I've bought just so I can have reference. (Nothing is for sale)

This is what I started with over a year ago for $500 Ended up having a burnt #2 intake valve.

Bought this to fix, ended up as a parts car unfortunately. Can't find a better picture either. It was a 92GL that had overheated.

Also bought a 1997 Aspire with 130,000 miles that needed a transmission.
Used the motor and swap stuff on blue car.

So far I have done/added the following:
    Swoopy Power mirrors. $36
Spray painted blue (bad idea). $100 +
New inner and outer tie rods, control arms, and rack boots. $100
    VC Gasket. $18
    Plugs/Wires. $20
    Distributor cap and rotor. $25
    Ebay cone filter/adapter. $20
    Fuel filter. $20
    Tach cluster. $25
Intermittant wiper switch (install pending). Free From OSX
LX console with shift boot. From parts car
Hatch light with door switch latch (install pending). From tderronne ($80 total)
Spoiler (install pending). From tderronne ($80 total)
    Hatch cover. From parts car
    New brake pads. $20
Replaced driver side knuckle for one with good wheel bearing. From parts car
Complete blue stripe interior with super nice plastic. From parts car
New auto seat belts (install pending). From parts car
Aspire Swap-New rotors, calipers, bearings all around, brake pads, drums, shoes, wheel cylinders, and rear brake lines. $220 From $275 Aspire parts car
VX Wheels (has 175/70-13 right now, want 185/60-13). $200

    How it looks now...

Bought the Aqua 92L thinking it would be my swap car but decided that since it has AC that I don't want to mess with I would just swap my blue car. Got it for $250 because it needed a transmission. Oddly enough I had one lying around.

Found a 91 XR2 on Craigslist, 68,000 miles but it was super rusty for some reason. I drove it and it ran great like it should. Clutch was even good enough to break loose wheels in second gear. Guy initially wanted $1200. After a month without any bites he lowered it to $900. I got it for $700, got what I need, and sold it (and a brand new soft top) to Capri Type-R (Russ) for $350 plus a Rocketchip ECU.

    Ripping it out...Safely.

    More to come...

    Comments and suggestions are welcome.

Yeah and I loved it. Wish you never took it apart. I'm saving for a set of Raceland coilovers with a 250f/200r spring rate which is why I'm not cutting my springs.

I'd love to, but I want to get my suspension done first. Also need new tires ($245 for Sumitomo HT200's? + install and alignment). Then before I do the swap I'd like to have purchased a new clutch, intercooler and piping kit, BOV and a few other things. Takes time for me to save money and convince the wife why I need all of these things. Lol.

But I guess we can race anyways...

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

Thanks for all the comments. Really encourages action...so I cut my front springs just to see how it would look since I'm not really driving it right now. Decided it was too much work to do the rear since I won't be driving it until my coilovers come.

Also, don't mind the green hatch, it will be painted in the spring or sooner. Going to paint spoiler and hatch at the same time. I put it on to add the defrost and wiper option (from 92GL parts car).

Your car looks really solid and I love those VX wheels.

When repainting, are you going to stick with that same shade of blue?
