Well here is two pics of the mustang I now own. It is rough but I figure for 1400 cant really beat it.

Good find. Bore the 289 out to 302 and put high rise manifold and holly quatrajet on it and those puppies fly. I had one. This is what it looked like after I uh wrecked it. Flipped it end over end three times and flew over a culvert and then flipped another three times. Loved that 68

Only the good lord can answer that. I didn't even have my seatbelt on and I woke up when someone tappped me on the shoulder and I crawled out of the car. Spent one night in hosp and went home. Sorry graywolf, didn't mean to take over your post. I did like that 68 thou. Good luck on fixing it up, they are great cars.

Same bore, the 302 just has longer stroke and slightly shorter rods.

Well it was originaly a 200ci but the last owner put in a 87 mustang engine(changed to carb) in it. Unfortunatly he didnt change out the springs, brakes, rear end or radiator. But it is no big deal since im planning on putting 94-04 cobra brakes on it so just need the v8 hubs. I have thought about actually making it efi but that is down the road, first I need to get the rust/ body taken care of.

EFI into an old mustang is easier than some of those b6t nightmares I read on here. Probably because I've done a ford v8 and not a b6t yet. Have fun with your new project.

Oh yea well I see all these mustang people buy that look nice but once they get into them they are rust buckets. So maybe since mine looks bad it may not be that bad... Well I can hope anyways haha. I got alot of plans for it over the yrs(2-3yrs I hope) to include black interior/exterior,cobra brakes, new suspension and the efi. I thought about the whole eleanor kit but that is about 4k just for the kit.

Nice thing about Mustangs is you can get any part you want to make it a stocker or a pro stocker

It needs a 460 stroked to 514 with a c6 and a 9" inch... but thats just me
                  money pit

No spitters were I work, you swallow it all. The Company feels if you already have it in your mouth why waste it.

Yea it will def be a restomod... I mean yea I like the totaly stock classic mustangs but they are slow, dont handle that great and brakes are junk compared to modern cars.

LOL, That would be cool, but a pretty tight fit and nose heavy! A nice FE block (like a 428 or 454 stroker) would be fairly easy to swap if you want big block torque. Sounds like he wants to make it handle, so I would vote a 347 (use what you got) or 427 Windsor smallblock stroker with good aftermarket heads & a built C4. You can get well over 400HP without breaking the bank and just bolt it in. Nothing against EFI, but I would stay with a carb if you want easy, cheap HP.
I agree about the parts available. You can even make it handle with the stock style suspension and get good brakes without having to redesign everything. Finding a good car to start with is the tough part. From here on, it just depends on how far you want to take it and your budget!

Yea im prob gonna stick with a 302 atleast for awhile. I like handling never been a big fan of going in a straight line. Im figuring new coils, leaf springs add sway bars and poly bushings for everything should be good. Well the brakes all I have to do is take the drums off use the stock spindles and hubs and buy a adapter than bolt the cobra stuff on. But I have to run atleast a 17 so ill prob go with factory bullet wheels.

Some of the mid size fords had factory discs in '68. I have a '67 Fairlane GT parts car that has factory discs. IIRC, you can also swap Granada discs pretty easy. You can also bolt in a Granada 9" rear with discs as well. That said, the Cobra setup is probably far superior. Join a good Mustang forum and you'll find out what is easy & effective. Keep us posted on the progress!

buy a whole car to get the swap from, 5.0 stangs with efi and 5 speeds can be had really cheap, and then you have everything you need to make a nice driving modern drivetrain car
