    • I'm pretty sure it does rocketman. that was what I read on the 323GTX boards a while ago.

        I think you've read wrong - I got my info from Jeff (trailrider098) who's done the swap in his BF GTX before. (I bought my BG GTX trans from him, it was his spare) I'm almost positive they're a different length and spline count. I would not have spent so much money trying to get ahold of 4wd protege stuff if I could have used BF GTX stuff.

        I have a set of 4wd Protege axles and some extra BF GTX intermediate shafts down at my shop. I'll head down this afternoon and compare them & take pictures

                You may be able to use Festy outer CV's - maybe not. You'll have to take them apart and see if they fit the 4wd protege shafts

                    This is what I found regarding BF vs. BG intermediate shafts:
                    It does appear a BF axle will fit into the BG transmission. Both are 24 spline. However, the BF shaft is substantially longer. I guess cause the BG transmission is much wider across the differential?

                    I'm guessing this means if you put the BF shaft into the BG trans it would be way too long or too far over to do anything with. The axle would be way too short to function properly. I'll confirm this whenever I do the BG trans swap in my capri.

                    The outboard splines are totally different - a BF axle will *not* fit onto the Protege half-shaft.

                    Also pictured below is the driverside axles for reference.

                    When I have more time I'll take some more exact measurements

                    • I actually sold Jeff BG front AWD knuckles so he has BG outers too.

                      This whole shenanigans is why I went with a wider wheel base so I can use off the shelf Protege axles and be done with it.

                        i dont think it will be to bad once i het a inter shaft to work with

                        • why not upgrade to BG front hubs so you don't need any BF parts? according to rocketman's schematic all you have to do is flip the inner CV on the driver's axle and be done with it?

                          You will get bigger brakes if you snag protege LX or Escort GT hubs
