  • I did some looking and only found info on the ecu being atx. How do u trick it into thinking its working, since it seems like it is computer controlled.

    • As far as I know there is 2 ECU's in the millenia, one for the engine and one for the transmission

Since all millenia's were auto, the engine ECU I have could be confused somehow causing my issue, that's what I've been trying to look into so I can try to trick the ECU to fix it, but so far no luck

My thoughts are worst case scenario, I'll set up my megasquirt to be plug and play with my protege AND festiva and I'll have a tune for each car depending on which one I'm driving... at least to get me by until I can buy a second megasquirt lol

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

      • Dam-man had to do it. Hey order me up an extra megasquirt, ballin'. That's the only ecu that engine will run on? There isn't a similar model with that engine. Figures all the cool stuff Is always hard to find.

        • Unfortunately there's no other ECU options for it

I forgot to update this, on Saturday I got a spare ECU and diagnostic port for it, swapped ECU's and no change, which I expected..... The spare ECU is for just in case I run a megasquirt on it then I have the ECU connector to harvest to make it plug and play

Once I get the diagnostics port wired up I "should" be able to figure out the issue

Transmission signals would be my guess as well, it's probably limiting engine speed to prevent transmission damage from slapping it into gear at wot.

            • This just hit me tonight.... what if i am missing the factory ignitors for the coil on plugs? could that cause my issue or without them, would there be no spark at all?

It seems that the sensors/selenoids get power from multiple points in the harness and tracking them all down with be a real PITA with the possibility that i'll miss something here or there, so by re-building the harness to how i want it, i won't miss anything
Do you think they powerd different sensors from different points in efforts to control voltage/signal to and from certain sensors separate from others?
Im not driving a Festiva because I'm poor. I drive a Festiva because i want to!

                      • I never did post what i ended up finding but the sensors/selonoids didn't have as many power points as i originally thought.... but you do have a good idea and you could be right

At this point, i think my two options are to either get another Millenia for additional harnesses, OR ran a standalone on it....... i'm leaning towards throwing a megasquirt on it, but lately i haven't had the time to touch the Protege since i'm also in the middle of parting out my Jeep

                              • lol. I feel that way about alot of projects. Then something happens, and I feel like I need to work on something I haven't seen in months, and I spend the whole first day trying to figure out what to play with first.
