Head studs are on the list, and a cometic head gasket, I plan on tearing into the engine this week and getting it back together as soon as I can. I need to order a manual tonite or tomorrow for torque specs and wiring diagrams, which one would be best? I can't remember which one you said the other day Arty.
I got the flywheel from the kia today and I'll see if it bolts up to the bp when I get home. If it does I'll go ahead and order a new one since this ones crusty, and order the clutch next week.
And, the axels come with the transmission, along with the hubs still attached and crossmember which will probably end up as scrap metal. I worked out a deal for the steering wheel/wiper stalk assembly/gauge cluster. He's almost giving me parts @his prices and I can't say no. I won't be using the wheel or wiper assembly but if I get the wiring diagram I'm pretty sure I can make it work for someone elses festy/aspire. Can't be much harder than the 626 wiper switch.
The car died because of a timing belt break, like most kias. I got a pic of the block, those poor pistons never had a chance against the valves.
The flywheel does bolt up, it fits perfect. There was some type of spacer/washer in the rear main seal that I think is only used for the a/t flex plate, so I took it out..it wouldn't fit with it in there.
A couple questions, can I clean and reuse the bolts that came off the flex plate, or do I need to get new bolts?
I'm looking for a MT flywheel for a 2002 Kia Rio, and a bearing to go inside it.
I'm having trouble finding a cometic head gasket specifically for a 93 protege, can anyone link me to one that will work, or know what stores carry Cometic gaskets?

Alright I'll find one for a miata then I suppose. I don't know if the blocks and heads interchange thru all the years and all the oil/coolant passages will all be the same. Figured I'd ask first. Won't be ordering until mext week tho, so if there's anything else I need to know speak up!
Alright, money is in the bank and I picked up the engine stand today, so I'm ready to get the fun started.
Can anyone help me confirm this is the gasket and head studs I need? I'd really hate to order the wrong part and end up paying double for something I can't use.
Flyin' Miata is the world leader in Miata performance and well-engineered, proven Miata MX5 components. We offer parts for a full range of Mazda Miata, MX5 and Eunos Roadsters vehicles.
Got the eng stand put together and mounted the motor. If I get out of here on time in the morning I'll still have an 82 hr paycheck. I havent got off on time a single day this week, so progress is alot slower than I'd like.
Got the Rio transmission today, took 3 hours, but I grabbed the tranny/mounts/crossmember/both front hubs/both LCA's/both sway bars/steering wheel/intermittent wiper switch/instrument gauge cluster/windshield washer pump/........a couple more things, I don't know what I'm going to do with half of it, but the stuff looked cool and at the JY dudes prices I can't stop myself when I go in there. It's better than walmart!
If I get a chance I'm going to tear into the engine tonite and see what's going on in there. Maybe tomorrow I can start cleaning and gasket matching the intake/exhaust ports.
I got bored, so I went and pulled the head off, while I was out today, I stopped by autozone, they have a stock mls felpro head gasket for 60$, I told them to order it in, and I gotta order the new studs tonight or tomorrow.
The exhaust valves have a bit of buildup on them, and the intake valves are just a little dirty, it's a good thing I didn't try to run this engine, there's so much crud in the cylinders it would have probably scarred the bores and ruined it. You can still see the cross hatch pattern in the bores, so I think that's a good sign. Pics to come when I get a minute.
