  • I've gone Festarded (BP+T build): pile-O-parts is almost complete!

My Festiva is already BP & aspire swapped. I did the Raceland coil overs, 2 1/2" mandrel exhaust, 255lph pump and a ton of maintenance stuff (plugs, wires, VC/dizzy gaskets, etc)

I've been collecting stuff for half a year now to do the turbo set up, and do it right. It's somewhat budget-oriented and not designed to be a ground-breaking build.

    .63 AR T3 turbo - free
    BP26 manifold cut/flanged for a Garrett T3 housing - $125 with the labor
    2.5" V-band T3 housing with divorced wastegate hole - $30 eBay
    SRT-4 bar/plate intercooler - free
eBay intercooler tubing, t-bolt connectors - $110 total
    SAFC II - $100
Ford brown top low impedance 35pph injectors (may have to suck it up and get RX7 injectors) - free
    SPEC stg. 1 BP clutch - $100
    XR2 G series trans/intermediate shaft - $325 total
    miata flywheel - $50

Deciding on a few things... (billet fuel rail with Kirban FPR, might possibly be re-inventing of the wheel), what size wastegate to get, and if I want to incorporate a vacuum-operated pre-cat dump valve.

The IC tubing will be a load of fun (sarcasm), since I am going to have to knock it off in one shot. It'll be a blow-through MAF car (1997 Kia engine) so I should retain a lot of good driveability.

Target is 200whp/200tq tuned to have a broader power band and less peak HP, and in a relatively gutted chassis. I'll follow up the build with pictures shortly.
    1989 Carby L: Stock. Slow.
1998 Mustang Cobra: ported heads, cams, longtubes, 4.30 gears

Am I the only one thinking that turbo might be a little too much (lag)?

^^depending on the size of the hot side, I think the cold side sounds pretty good for the BP

Hasn't anyone read up on the fastest Festiva list ?????

Top 2 fastest Festiva's were using 60 trims on a BP and I really don't know why anyone else has tried to beat that record !

Volumetric efficiency + exhaust CFM. The Super 60 T3 from a 2.3L turbocoupe is what I'm using. The 1.8L DOHC BP motor moves more air than an iron headed SOHC 2.3L Lima without issue. I expect it to behave very well at cruising speeds (2700-3100rpm) with nearly no lag.

Hot side is .63 AR, Super 60 compressor cold (stock T3 offering)

The kicker on making the move to T3 flange the BP26 manifold is because of how plentiful the turbos are, and how easy it is to make a hybrid based off Garrett housings.
