  • Pulled the wire harness out of the EGT for the VICs wire, also the fourth disty wire. Not sure how to get them out of and add them to the yellow plugs yet though. I guess the plugs open up somehow, or do you just pull the wire from the plugs and insert in the other ? Pulled the dash and installed the ECU.

    • If you want to pull the wire and pin from the plug, get a safety pin and bend it open, then take a good long look at the plug from the wire side and identify the lock tab. You can push the wire in, disengage the lock, then slide the wire and safety pin out at the same time.

Because this is so easy, I basically never solder wiring in cars where I have to do loom work.

      • PS - How hard is it to pull the dash? Think I could pull it and put it back in within a couple hours?

Cool thanks for the info ! I figured it was something like that. Going to have to get my 1.50 powered reading glasses for that task.

I dont think I could do it in a couple of hours. You might be able to pull it in an hour or so but Id say it will take longer to put it back in. I know the air ducts were a pain to get back in on the last one I pulled. The last one had a/c though.

Is it possible to set the gauge cluster on the steering column brace and hook it back up? I don't mind driving without a dash, but I've driven cars without gauges before, and it's a PITA and drains the battery on my phone from using the GPS app.

PS - Get a magnifying glass on a stand to work with. It allows you the use of both hands and variable magnification by moving closer/further in relation to the lens.

I guess you could if you could get the cluster to stay in place somehow.

                • Marcus what I did was use an old harness end to practice opening it and removing wires. I cut the whole end off of an escort harness about 6 inches from the ecu. That gave me 6 inch tails to connect my 2 extra wires too. I then put them into the festy plug and ran new wires to where they needed to go. Hope that helps

                  • ^ Greg or anyone, could you please confirmed the VICS & Fourth Disty wire placement below before I put the dash back in ? Id hate to take it out a second time. Also are there any other wire(s) that need to go to the ECU ?

                      • I extracted some wire from the EGT harness. Somehow I came up with four wires. Two from the disty, one from the ISC, and one for the VICS ?? I guess this is wrong ?? Should I forget the 2nd disty and ISC wires ?? The ISC spot in the festiva's 26 pin yellow plug is different from the where it is on the EGT's plug.

                            • :help:

I need some wiring help. I have two wires that run from the distributor plug to the ECU. Do I run them both direct to the ECU or just one ? And if only one, which one ? Also my ISC plug has a wire that runs direct to the ECU. Do I run it direct or just splice it into the festiva harness ? Also are my wire placements in the 26 pin yellow plug correct ? Pictures above ^ I also ordered some outer tie rod ends from ORiellys , $73 a piece :eeeeeek: and no grease zert.

                              • When I did my BP swap I remember taking the stock festiva dist. connector, adding the 4th wire to it and running that wire to the ECU, that's all I did for the distributor wiring
