  • Dirt stock car

Here is the last project I'm working on. It's a 1977 Mercury Cougar it has a 351M400 6.6 L (rebuild by me last summer) originaly equiped with a Motorcraft 2 barrel converted to Holley 4 barrel (600cfm 80457) with Edelbrock intake (S.P.2.P.-400) and 4 in a row DEC header. It also have new brake front and rear (safety first). I'm going to make a full cage in it in a couple of week. For those of you who can't remember I had a 1978 Cougar back in 2007 and made a roll over without a cage and I will never do a race in a big car like this without a cage. My old number was 351w cause the guy who sold it to me told me the engine was a 5.8L 351w but it was a 351m400 so I have a new number for this yearit's going to be 351m. I hope it's going to be ready before May 26-27.

The engine and tranny before the rebuilt

    after the rebuilt

I was supposed to use those manifold but decided to put some header

Then I decided to put a 4 barrel on it

Here is what my 1978 look like when I got it in 2006

    then I race it

    and this is the accident

I'm the one with the blue jacket

    and this is the aftermath

I hope I'm going to do better this year

Now put some pic's of your dirt stock car, demo derby car, etc...

          I'm confused.........is it a 351M (3.50" stroke) or a 400M (4.00" stroke)? Most of the cars had the 351M (5.8L). Very few got the 400M, but I have seen a few.

I may have some pics somewhere of our old '82 LTD stock car (circle track). We ran a 400M with Chevy pistons and 351C 2V heads and a Comp Cams 260H retarded 4*. Most of the 351/400M heads had issues with the combustion chamber being too thin. Per class rules, we were limited to 10:1 compression, factory 2V carb, factory exhaust manifolds and .500" lift on the cam. We used the biggest 2V Motorcraft carb we could get and then ported out the venturies to get around 500CFM. When the track conditions were sticky, there wasn't a small block Chevy that we couldn't pass on the straight away.

Seeing big old american iron makes me miss my '81 LTD wagon (a REAL LTD, none of that wood-sided leather-seated "country squire" crap!).

It was a beast! Little sluggish though with the 302W/AOD. Never got to do a lincoln 428 in it like I wanted, but I did get to help a buddy of mine do one in a his 2-door LTD (his was a REAL LTD too, not a vic)
                  No festiva for me ATM...

26-27 May but I doubt it's going to be ready. I still need to do the roll cage but it's too cold outside and we still have snow here.

Here is some pic during the race
I start slowly because there is a kind of funnel where only 2 car can go in front of us and I ended 3rd

The Mustang have a GM 350 4bolts and he was behind me

The Mustang did the bump on my trunk during the 2nd turn
