Thanks George! I actually have an 89 FSM, but I'm here at work thinking about the car and I just remembered that I heard something about the carb cars being solid lifter. I'll do the valves this week. Probably pick up some HP for free.

I had a shift light, that worked in my original cluster. It would only work when the car was A: Cold, and B: Outside temp was below 15* Lol

Yeah, this one comes on at weird times. It seems to work in second gear pretty consistently, but it won't come on if first and it's intermittent in 3rd.

I don't discriminate. Actually kinda excited to have a Carby. If I have any trouble with the stock carb (seems to work well now) then I'll throw some individual carbs on it or megasquirt it. I'm pretty handy tuning motorcycle carbs. The festiva carb confuses me a bit, because I'm not sure why a carbureted engine has an o2 sensor.

check the vacuum lines. The shift light is operated by a Hobbs type vac switch. Cracks in the hoses can diminish the available vac to the switch.

As for the O2 sensor, it's a feedback carb. The PCM monitors the O2 under specific coolant temp and throttle position conditions. It then controls a stepper motor to change air bleeds to the main circuit emulsifier well. Additionally, the PCM controls a fuel-cut solenoid to reduce closed-throttle decel emissions and to prevent key-off dieseling. Oh, there's also a BP sensor/switch to modify the air bleed decisions.

That makes sense Jim. I'll check the vacuum lines when I do the valve adjustment. It does act like it has a vacuum leak, kinda surges under acceleration when the engine is cold. Warmed up she runs like a champ, smoother idle than any of my EFI cars.

Mike, I would probably put some Mikuni FCR flat slides on it, like 32mm. If anything it would sound cool! Lol. No rev limiter so I could definitely test where the stock valve springs float the valves. Hehe. But for now, it's really a cherry little car and it would be a shame to disturb it too much. I definitely have to do something with the suspension though. I'm so used to driving Tweak, when I get into a stock festiva I try to carry way too much speed into every corner. Poor little tires.

i have the opposite problem, im so use to driving my tracker that when i get in my festiva im afraid to push it in to a corner at first... then after a while i get use to it, then when i hop back in to my tracker, i have the same problem as you lol... going from bpt to a worn out tracker motor is like night and day... it really makes me realize how much power my festiva has... or how gutless my tracker is lol...

Thanks guys! Yeah, I'll try to update this thread when I work on Babe. Right now I'm just amazed at 40 something mpg, I thought the gas gauge was broken, but it works fine. I have never gone 300 miles between fill ups in a Festiva, so this is pretty cool.

For sure, I spun the tires (maybe it was "tire" lol) today shifting into second. That surprised me a bit.
