You guys have almost missed the curve. I was screaming " save these cars" 2 years ago when they we popping up by the dozen at pull a part yards and on Craig's list. Now they are getting rare. The Festiva is on it's way to where the VW beetle has been for years. Expect to see prices rise dramatically for solid examples, just like the VW rabbit, and MK1 escort (Europe). You can guess the rarity curve by a matter of months by watching the yards here in Phoenix. When cars start showing up in great numbers more than 15 years after they were produced, they are on their way out. That's when the value of the car has tanked. At that point, all non enthusiast cars are destroyed. After all non enthusiast cars are destroyed, only enthusiasts are left. After that, the "you can't have it anymore" bug bites and people are destined to want what they can't have and prices rise. Given the current cult of hot hatch enthusiasts, and Ford's introduction of the Fiesta ST, the Festiva will not be forgotten. When I bring my cars to car shows out here they get more attention than most classic hot rods. You can't get a running and driving festiva out here in decent shape for less than 1500 dollars anymore. That price goes up every time another one goes to the crusher.

Keep saving them, you live in one of the few areas where the cars dont rust away. Just go get a 100,000 sq. foot warehouse and start parking them, probably a more solid investment than a 401k

You need to winter down here Chris. Toyota just opened a new proving ground down here. Get transfered to R&D and get your butt down here.

No, I died the factory brown carpet black with SEM carpet paint. I've had bad luck with pre molded carpets for economy cars, but had great luck with SEM interior finish products.

That guy is less than 3 miles from me and I have yet to go over there. I almost bought a 5 speed tranny from him, but he wanted 250 bucks for it and I couldn't justify that kind of money for an E-seres. 2 of my cars are 4 speeds and I'd like a 5 speed, but I'd rather get a nice rio 5 speed for that kind of money. For now, I don't really mind my 4 speed, kinda brings me back to my air-cooled v-dub days.

A friend of mine did it for 800. It was stripped down to the factory primer and all the little waves and dimples were smoothed out. I basically just paid for materials, because he used it as a training job for a new recruit who is going to school for body work. It's not perfect, but it looks a lot better than it did.
