  • Chris's Lifted BP swap

this is my first motor swap ever and so if i do something wrong tell me haha cuz im fine with leaving motor mounts of and using ratchet straps to hold the motor in instead! but ill do it right i swear!

my festiva (the White Stalin) has 186xxx 5 speed manual, no extras at allll! with a 7" lift on 205/75r/14s with a stock B3

but i just bought a 1994(year might be wrong) 1.8L DOHC escort GT motor with a 5 speed has 130xxx miles all for $248 it has AC and power steering (im pulling them off since i dont need it) but it has the wiring harness BUT its cut as soon as it gets of the engine and not any oil leaks

right now i need to decide weather or not to use the escort GT 5 speed tranny? if not im getting rid of it and using my stock 5 speed festiva tranny
should i try to splice my wiring harness in to the one that's left on the motor
what should i start with cuz if not im but pulling my B3 motor and dropping this one in and playing with the wiring till i get it to start oh and make a passenger side motor mount and not worry about the exhaust till i get it running

Well the lift it self isn't 7 but with the tires it adds up to it and I'll have plunty of pics of the car as I'm building this monster and the only other lifted festiva in the world that I know of was movin,s but its no longer with us RIP to that poor car... but do I want to use that tranny from the escort or will my stock one work just as good?

Its pretty bad but it is in my garage...!!! It will have a plan formed to restore its value as a off road vehicle!!

Rest fitfully my little car, the frame rack and welder will give you heck until you hit the forest once more, and no more waiting for the heavy metal to catch up!!

My plans for a new front suspension may be delayed a little, but I would like to go hunting this fall and camp with this totaled car restored enough to do so. The thread about seats folding flat are for this car going hunting and NOT staying in camp but staying the night where I have tracked the ELK too and continuing from that point on the hunt.

My insulin resistant diabetes diagnosis means my garden is worthless as are all my fruit trees and berries, and my hunting is priceless..no carbs with exercise is now what my life depends on.

We both are in the best support group possible !!

Well today I finally got started on the swap today!! had to buy a cherry picker first thow to get started on craigslist for $25 great buy! But I got my b3 out of the festiva and the bp out of the back of my moms suburbin been there a week! but I swaped the cluth and flywheel from my b3 went like a charm minus the fue busted nuckels but then I started to pull the tranny out so I can repair the front tranny mounte cuz it rusted of the front of the car and now is resting on the sway bar.. but the cv axles won't come off so its slowed me down.. (any tips or do I need a bigger pry bar then my 4' one) and I got the exhoust off too along with the ac and power stearing pump of the bp motor. I'm getting pictures of the whole build just need to find time when I'm not working on the festiva to poste them

Oh and I found a really easy way to take of the shifting linkage and that is to sit on the ground by the tranny under the hood! Its also a good place to hide to scare brothers when the come out to look for ya! Don't judge I'm onlyy 19 what do you expect! but any little tips to help it go faster/smoother? Thanks for the help

You need two matching bars, use them 180 from each other under the cup. Alternate between them to produce a wiggling action and a pulling action. Be fore warned though, this is an art and there are those that would claim sorcery is involved.

First problem! Got the tranny out didn't take to long but I was checking to see if it bolts to the bp engine and it kinda did tthe top two and the middle ones on ether side bolted on perfict but the bottom two there is no spot for it to be bolted to the motor and the tranny but it doess have a fancy oil pan could it be aftermarket cuz it has air cool vents on the oil pan bp motor or do I just leave them two bolts out? Or do I take the oil pan of the b3 motor so I can put them last 2 bolts in?

Oil pans won't swap, snap a pic I don't know what bolts your talking about. I like the progress this far tho, your really gettin it done!

Oh wait your bolting the BP to a stock tranny? The 4 main bolts are all that really matter, if you can squeeze some of the 10mm bolts on it would be cool with a BP I don't know how many if any line up. You could hold the block plate to the bell housing and drill holes I suppose. Don't forget to swap the flywheel for the transmission your using to the engine your using, clutch block plate, throwout bearing and everything needs to be in place.

Have you not read any of the swap guides???

You have to cut/grind a chunk off the oil pan where the axle hits...
