  • cooked the B3

So, its been while since all this started, but one am on the way to work, the festy started to detonate, started losing power and I knew it was over...I parked the car, feeling a bit depressed, wondering what to do. I had already been discussing a bp swap but the timing wasn't quite right, as I had enough going on. Heck, I couldn't even find time to get the B3 out of DONSVO's lemons car that had been seeking shelter in my garage. Don told me to yank the B3 and install it so I could get rolling and get my economy back. It seemed like a great idea, and the most logical, but there is a serious problem some might say. I cant leave things unmodified, it seems. So it begins...

So after I pulled the engine, Don and I decided to hunt. I was set on a kia donor with harness and all, even found a couple of them in the yard. After we had scanned most the aisles, I saw this shimmering light. It was hard to recognize as it's roof had been cut off, doors and clip missing, just a gray valve cover poking its head out waiting to be rescued. The car had obviously already started to give all it had. Someone had robbed the distributor, timing dress, crank pulley, vam, and ecm, but it was still a great prospect. A quick glance under the valve cover revealed it had been taken care of. The oil cap had been left off in the yard, but all was recent. We could clearly see, it could still be revived, so we got to work...

oh, and not to be overlooked...

    even had the midpipe!

    scabbing mounts

    trial fitments

    ecm from ebay

    pass mount

keep in mind, im not even buying metal for this project at the moment...scrap budget, so don't judge my horrific mount that ill redo at a later date. I do know after hanging the engine and trans from this mount alone, it wont break lol

pulled the valve cover and cams to clean them up,

          heres where that got us

all the wiring complete in the last post, ac mockup for cleaarancing

          alternator shot

made this jewel for the brake booster reference, utilizing factory threaded holes in the firewall
( I thought the goofy bends in odd places would make it look more factory)

timing components on (and a new crank pulley from don's engine we installed yesterday!)

vane overhaul! oxidation had the door acting sticky so I disassembled, scotch brite'd, and brake cleaned. resealed with anaerobic sealer.

          and here we are

I will be continuing on as I need my daily back! Framerail clearancing and lots more to finish up!

my idea at the moment is to use an e-brake cable (for added length) and make a new bracket for that of course. If that doesn't work, ill do a setup similar to Damkid's

I'm working on the same idea ! Leaving all hydro out , maybe extend clutch arm and connect cable ( longer cable ) make brackets and test ?

Thats what i love to see. Dont even wire wheel any rust off. Buy what you need and make it vroom. A true JY swap.

Dont get me wrong i love transformations full of purty eye candy, showing off skills, the before and after, but the no nonsense swaps have so much heart yet so little love.

Well his runs and spits fireballs, my festy does not. Mine is next, I put some info about his build there. I think he got tired of me having to do his updates

I have that side too lol. This project, as stated, wasn't planned really. It wasn't the right time but it's going to happen. That and I have to get it out of the way so I can do dons! The other projects here are the pretty ones!
