Perhaps that is true for max HP, but it made very good torque--73 ft/lbs @ 3000 RPM, higher after that, and back down to 73 @ 5700 RPM. I guess that's why it accelerates so well.

    • Can you post the sheet?

Just thinking out loud. You might make more use of that adjustable cam gear you have on Matthew than for MPG pursuits, since the cam is so bottom end biased. For instance just shifting that 73 torques from 3000 to 4000 would be 56hp vs 42hp. I don't know how much a cam gear can shift torque, but that's a significant difference.
Any difference that makes no difference is no difference.

        • The price I have in mind as what I want out of the car, but being realistic about its overall value, is $1900. I figure the head, intake and exhaust system alone is worth $1400 (to have Matt duplicate it, about $1800), and the whole rest of the car is then only $500. It's no beauty, but is in good shape mechanically, and has some nice interior pieces. There's nothing the new owner would have to do to it, it's a DD ready to go. Greg is even giving me a set of map pockets to install. Also, there is more power to be had via a standalone fuel-management system.

                • Went down to see Greg for a day and a half...haven't seen him in 2 1/2 years! If one of us went to Madness, the other didn't go that year.

Just got back after a long drive. Went down Thurs morning, got there Fri 1pm, started back about 9pm Sat and just got home 7pm today. Got to drive his car for the first time--it's pretty quick--and he took me rail-buggying, and I got to drive a mini-cart. He has a stupid pic of me doing this.

While I was there, he set the toe-in, adjusted my headlights, installed shifter bushings, and detailed the engine bay! And installed a nice used Bosal muffler he had laying around, to replace the glass-pack that was on there. It set up terrible resonance on the hwy, so it had to go. He did a nice mini-makover to the car.

Gas mileage: when Larry was a stock B3 with 155/80x13s, I got 52.5 MPG @ 60 MPH. With the Dickmeyer 1.3 motor, and the same tire size, @ 60 I got 48 MPG over the course of a 250-mile drive. So gain 31 WHP, lose 4.5 MPG. A good tradeoff I think. Even @ 70 I was getting 38-41 MPG, and that wasn't steady cruising; I was playing around a lot, accelerating up hills etc.

My stock B6 is getting 41.9 @ 60 MPH, and makes less power than this 1.3!

On the drive home I had it up to 95 MPH a couple of times. It's stable, but the limiting factor is the tall, skinny, cheap tires. Matthew ran perfectly the whole 2100 miles round trip, BTW.

Greg took a few pics of Matthew with his phone, after he washed it. It's dirty again because of the snowstorm I went through on the way home. I'll take a shot of the engine bay tmw. He even painted the VAF!

                      • Tom, imagine what a B6 could do with the same things done to a B6, that what was done to Matthew!
But, I got reservations on Matthew running better than a B6!!! No offense!
I saw Matthew run in the parking lot at the Herman meet. Not impressed with the takeoff I saw.

So here it is ...I want to run against Matthew to see if it can take my WEBER CARBED B6!!! LOL I dont think so!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wanted to run ya at the meet, but we did other stuff and didnt have time.

Take me up on my offer!!!!! The challenge has been layed out!!!!!

                        • You're on. How about a roll-on on the hwy? 40 MPH to start.

Remember that at the meet, the car was full of stuff and had Karl in the pass. seat.

Don't know about the 40mph thing, I think you guys should start as a second gear roll at around 30 lol... stock E will run up to 45 in 2nd and it gets into your power around 25/30... run through second and 3rd around 80/90...hehe this will be interesting!

Meh, why pay? And since it's a test of power, not driver skill, I'd prefer to eliminate shifting. Just see what happens when we accelerate from a given RPM in a given gear.

One little run on a highway (waiting for a spot with no one around) will do the job. I'll check at what speed the power starts in 3rd--I don't have a tach in Matthew, but I know from the dyno sheet that power starts building at 2800 RPM. I do have one in Larry tho, so I can check RPMs in him. Same tranny, doesn't matter what motor is in there. 2800 RPM = X speed, so start the roll-on at X. And 3rd would be a reasonable gear to start on the hwy, since we won't be going too fast when I hit the fuel cutoff. (Dan has no fuel cutoff in his car since it's a Weber carby, with no computer involved.)

Dan, I know you have heavy tires/wheels on, and mine are light, so that's a factor too. Either I can swap on my 14s from Larry, or you can go to some light wheels/tires, if you have them.
