        I had that problem with my old Chevette. It turned out that I was having a binding problem with the clutch itself. I broke like 4 cables before it was found out. I replaced the clutch and then there was no more problems.

        EDIT: Of course, after thinking about it more, the mere fact that it was a Chevette was a problem itself. LOL
