No, it was fine when he left.
As a matter of fact Tunner readjusted it before he left Sunday.
Outer bearing fused itself to the spindle.
Brought a spindle with me, But couldn't find the crush nuts.
Turns out the spindle was the left hand threaded one and must have been swapped before with a passenger side one.
I never even considered that the spindle might not be the correct one.
Couldn't have used it anyway, as we couldn't get the last nut off the spindle backing plate, due to the lower damper bolt.
And we all know what problems those are.
So reused the damaged spindle, with Tunner using files, sandpaper and emery clothe to smooth-out the imperfections.
Swapped in newly packed bearings and began the journey back.
Stopped a few times to check the wheel for play and noted a high temp condition which later, 30 miles or so, went away.
On a good note Tunner and I did find that Advanced Auto had 2 LH crush nuts, not the one we needed but we bought them anyway.

      A little disappointed I didn't see a better response.
I wasn't able to get there till 3pm yesterday.
I would have thought we would have had someone closer that though they may not have had parts could have lent a hand.

          Status Report

Checked the bearing the bearing before I left this AM for work and all seemed fine - Checked again once ariving at work and again bearing was fine.

I appreciate John comming out to assist and the driving to just about every parts store in the 20 mi radius to find a nut -

To clarify it was the drivers side rear that went out and like John said the inner cage of the outer bearing fused itself to the spindle shaft - luckily we were able to use a nut splitter to get it of and then about 40 min of filing and sanding to return the spindle to a usable condition.

Thanks to Arty and Jim for the original assistance and to Jim for the Q&A

Jim, I have no doubt of that whatsoever, I was thinking of some members within an hour or so of Cincinnati, OH.
I just can't believe we have no members in that area.
I'd have made the trip anyway, but then Tunner wouldn't have had to wait for me to get there and he may have been able to effect a repair earlier.
Just another reason for when members are making long treks that they let us know so that some of us can mount a rescue mission if need be!

I'd feel better if you replaced the spacer/washer with the "tang" that fits into the "keyway" in the spindle and got a new RH threaded nut.
I can hit the JY if you can't get the washer.
              Let me know.

Yeah I will be getting a new nut for sure - the washer will be replaced as well - if you find one in the yard that is in good shape save it in case I cant get a new one.

I don't believe you'll be able to obtain a new keyed washer. Used is you best bet. they don't usually wear out, unless as a result of catastophic failure.

Or near catastrophic faliure as in my case - the washer took on some wear due to me limping it off the highway down the exit ramp and across the street to the gas station - only to be told if I leave my car there overnight it would be towed in the morning if I didnt move it - even if I was with the car - so it was put back together and limped down the street to a hotel parking lot - meaning alot of stress on that washer with the outter bearing being gone

So, if I understood this correctly you had a right side spindle, on the left side of the car?
Never seen that done before..... hope I don't....
Just when you thought you had seen it all.....
I had to chisel off the nuts, and replace them. Not something I would like to do as emergency repairs in a parking lot. Bad enough to do it at the shop as it is time consuming working around the cage work of the swing arm. Those, and the bottom strut bolt.......
I am glad everything worked out, and you are home. I was close enough to the shop when the right side welded on Rasta, but it rode on the washer like yours for a few miles. Yes, a few miles...... It was nerve racking!
