i would take it apart myself and see whats going on, it sounds like they forgot to put the spacer back in

So I went to a shop for an alignment

they are taper bearings, so cant be backwards, the inner and outter are the same part #, so not mixed up. with the spacer in place its hard to overload the bearings when pressing back together. they either left it loose (check for up/down play in wheel) or overloaded the bearings because the 'tards simply left out the spacer. id bet anything thats what they did. they lost the spacer the first time in most likely and their second try also failed due to lack of the spacer.

hubs seem to be a nightmare for me too. i think you know my story, took hub to reputable shop, they seperated hub from knuckle, mixed up spacers and lost one. so now im left with knuckles that need to be measured. i wish someone on here who knew how to do these would offer a service hint hint. it seems as it is hard to find people who know how to properly set the bearing preload around by us. i am talking with a Kia mechanic now who said he will do mine on the side when he gets some free time so ill see how that goes.

As far as what they effed up, I'm going to agree that they likely damaged/ removed the spacer. I guess they could have screwed something up pressing the bearings in, but I'd lean towards the spacer being the issue.

Good luck on the shims. When I checked with a local Ford dealer they ran a check on 3 or 4 sizes just out of curiousity for me and there weren't many in the entire country, (USA). According to them they are/were sold individually. I was thinking someone posted about shime possibly being available from Kia but I don't remember for sure.
