I got $1200 in body work done on my festy, all that was wrong was the drivers side fender was banged up and the turn signal was busted. My car was "worth" $1400.

Take the money and convoy with us to the Florida Meet

I mean, I could do a lot with $1300. I could even buy another Festiva that isn't rusted, leaking oil and trans fluid, burning oil, etc, and then part mine out, or something... Of course I'd probably just keep mine, since I really like the color combination and I've done custom stuff to it that I would have to swap over...

      Opinions?
      Take the money.

Come down and convoy with us to the Florida meet.

I should have a fender and door you could pick up.

You could have a great time with the rest of doing the convoy and meeting up with all the great Festiva folks attending the meet.

Once you get here to Raleigh we could just swap out your door and fender.

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. No joy on the fender in my favorite yard. Both black/ charcoal gray stivas are either missing the fender you need, or they have been repainted. Even checked out another yard I just found out about today. They only had one blue LX. Got all happy feet for a minute, thinking there might be a tray in there, but no dice. Seats have been changed.

Sounds like Dean might be able to hook you up.

That sounds awesome, depending on how everything turns out I might just do that.

That's okay, thanks for looking for me anyway.

Just talked (more like fought) with my dad about this whole thing. He says they'll never pay the $1300 (which makes sense since that would total my car), and not the $1000 I was quoted by the other place either, saying my car isn't worth that much.

Is there actually anything that says the people have to pay the amount/near the amount of the estimate? Especially because the estimate is for repairs I am not getting done... Will I just be forced to take whatever they'll give me?

I had someone hit my car in a parking lot the other day, while I was inside the store, they didn't leave a note or anything.. just left me with some dents and scrapped paint..

That stinks. Same thing happened to my last car, but it wasn't very noticeable so when I sold it, the price wasn't affected much by it.

It does bring one thing into consideration though, no matter what I get from the people who hit me, it is still better than if they hadn't left a note at all... So I really can't complain.

Did you get written quotes from the places you went? If so I would just take the quotes to your neighbors and talk it over with them. It was their fault and they can't be the judge of whether or not your car is "worth" that amount. I'd say just hash something out with them to where you are both happy

The junkyard near me had this exact color fender! It even had the red stripe... Do you want me to check to see if they still have it? If so, we can work out the details.... The car was pretty much stripped barebones, so it may be crushed by now.

Yes, I did get printed estimates. When I call them, I'll tell them what they were and go from there. The way I'm looking at it now, is that if I had a more expensive car, and the damage wasn't near the full price of the car, they would still have to pay, so it shouldn't be like "Oh, I hit some crappy car, no big deal, I'll just give them a couple hundred bucks and they'll be fine."

If you've got the time, that would be great.

Nice to see there are still HONEST people who are truly APOLOGETIC! Amazing! The person who backed into my Corsica hit and ran. Then a month or so ago my neighbor's boyfriend backed into my car. I had to TELL him he hit it. $500 damage but not noticeable...he gave me $300 cash. It already had damage so I couldn't care less..FREE MONEY! It is amazing how much a minor bump costs to fix...no wonder people hit and run!

Got everything settled today, they gave me a check for $500. I'll be heading down to North Carolina in March to get the door and fender replaced at V8Festiva's, and unless gas is back up to $4 by then, that much will much more than cover it.

I was basically thinking the same thing... Might be able to find an entire Festiva with less rust for $500!!

+1. I paid a total of 550.00 for both of my cars. Glad it all seems to be working out for you.
