  • Where to mount my holster?

First of I am licensed to carry a firearm. With that being said I want to mount a holster in my Festiva. I want to mount it where it is easily reached(if not it defeats the purpose of carrying) and to where it is still concealed my problem is that I carry a Colt 1911( a fairly large pistol) any ideas? by the way it will be in a 91GL thanks

You could find a way to mount it up under the dash where the grip would be readily accessible towards you.

If there were a center console (next to you, vs in front), you could mount one there. I've seen some slick setups on Jeeps.

On the other hand... Why not just carry it ON you?

I am currently carrying it on me but my holster is uncomfortable(if you carry a 1911 you know what I'm talking about) and I end up taking it off and putting it in the glove compartment or on the seat I have thought about mounting it on the inside of the cubby under the radio closest to me but that is as far as I've got I thought I would get other ideas

That wouldn't really conceal it if it were in the center console though. If you found a way to have it sort of up under the dash (and it would be held securely), that would be a good alternative.

Never handled a 1911 myself... My carry is an XD9 SubCompact.

I'll look at the dash tomorrow and see if I can find a place. I have thought about putting an under seat tray on my side and mount the holster in there.I need to get a different carry gun as my 1911 is fairly large to carry but I love my gun. I have handled a gun like your and almost bought it. I can imagine how much nicer that would be to carry. Do you like it?

Absolutely love it. I had the service model before I bought the subcompact (4" barrel and a slightly longer grip), but it was too big for my body to conceal correctly (I'm 5'6" and all of 125 lbs).

I compared them to a ton of other handguns when I was looking to buy, held them all, etc... and the XD fit my hand really well. The little magazine "nub" add-on makes it fit perfect!

I agree with getting a slightly smaller carry pistol.

Simon, that is a nice piece!
I have an AMT Backup in .380 for carry. Same size as my hand, easy to conceal.

About the only way I can conceal my 1911 is in the small of my back which is why I end up taking It off and putting it in the glove compartment. I am 5'10" 230 pounds so I can conceal a little bit bigger gun. I have shot my buddy's Kel-tec 10plus one and it seamed so small it almost felt like I was going to break it

Yeah and with it being loaded the gun is worth more than the car. The Judge is a good gun my father-in-law has one that thing is awesome.

Kel-tec P3AT for the win!!! Why are you worried about concealing it while you are driving? If someone is close enough to see it then someone is going to be close enough to see you reach for a holster. Have it where you can get to it easily and just keep a vigilant eye on your surroundings... maybe just tuck a paddle holster between one of the seats and the center console

You need one of those built-in map pockets on the back of the passenger's seat. That would be quick & easy to reach with your right arm without leaning forward or moving your upper body much. Plus, it would not attract any attention like a holster screwed to the side of the console.
I think you can even buy those add-on elastic pockets at Wal-Mart.
