  • Beware of Tires-Easy.com

So, after checking the inventory on a set of tires on tires-easy.com and the inventory said they had 5 tires left in the size I wanted (175-50-13) I ordered a set and instantly sent them a paypal payment through their website. The payment went through and it charged me sales tax. Well, since there are a lot of tire businesses here in Arizona I didn't think much of that. So, a week goes by and I'm wondering where my tires are. Then I get an e-mail from the company that owns Tires-Easy.com (Delticom) that states that there were insufficient funds to complete my transaction. The e-mail then gave a direct link to make another paypal payment. I took this as a red flag, and went to my paypal account by typing in paypal.com into my browser. When I checked my paypal, the history said that my payment had been processed successfully and was accepted by Delticom. So, I wrote a letter to the e-mail address that my conformation e-mail from Delticom came from telling them that I thought fraudulent activity was being conducted with their customer information. A representative of Delticom e-mailed me back and said that they would give the information to the finance department and if my payment was clear it would go to the warehouse. This was a week and a half after I had paid for my tires mind you.
Another week goes by and I get an e-mail telling me that they no longer have that size of tire, and that I could transfer the funds to an alternate size. I was pretty irritated at this time. I looked at all their tires that I may want and noticed that the prices were okay, but not good when they charged the sales tax, shipping and the "environmental fee". I then looked up the address to this business and found out they are in Oregon, which has no sales tax. and the environmental fee which is only applicable to tires sold for use in Oregon, is a dollar a tire. I asked the sales rep about this and he said that it was because they were registered in Arizona. I asked my accountant and she said that if the order was being taken in Oregon, and the payment went to an Oregon retailer (which Delticom North america is listed as retailing from Oregon, the AZ address is not a retail location) and the tires are being shipped from out of state then it is not up to Delticom to collect sales tax. She then ran the numbers and told me that their calculated sales tax was 30% high even if they were retailing from a phoenix location. I asked the sales rep about this and he just said that they are required to collect tax and wouldn't go any further. I told him that I wanted a full refund and that what they were doing was fraud.
Three days later, I still hadn't gotten my refund. It had been three weeks since I had given them money for tires that they didn't even have. I was very unhappy. So, I e-mailed them again and told them that they still hadn't sent my refund. Within a couple of hours I got an e-mail saying that my refund had been sent. I checked my paypal and they sent a partial refund. I then immediately wrote back and told about the partial refund. The sales rep wrote back (it usually takes a day for them to reply) saying that they refunded the amount that I paid them. I sent them a copy of my paypal transaction information where it gave the two figures and the "partial refund". I haven't heard back from them.
So, in conclusion, they took my money for tires they didn't have in the first place, tried to charge me bogus sales tax, kept my money for over a month and short changed me on my refund. I'm tired of dealing with this and I will never deal with Delticom again.

I only hope that I can save others from this frustration.

You could buy local and save the hassel. You would have had your tires mounted a month ago!

In all seriousness...thanks for the warning though. I had never even heard of that website. I've used tirebuyer and tirerack before...both were good...neither were for Festiva tires.

Thanks for the heads up. I've considered ordering from them before, and now I'm glad I didn't

Been temped to use TiresEasy before, but always end up changing my mind after they want to charge me $40+ in shipping for a pair of tires lol. Glad I haven't used them I guess. I usually buy local anyway, and mount and balance myself.
        No festiva for me ATM...

I've never ordered tires online, I always compare online prices to local prices and usually after duty charges, I'm better off saving the hassle and buy local, not to mention buying local would include installation

Charlie, if I were you, I'd start a claim with PayPal, no dense in dealing with that company to hope to get your money back when PayPal will make sure you get your money back

I have there tires on my f-150. Good tire best price I could find. No really complaints with them other than they sent me tires that were "old". They dated back to 2010. I mounted and balanced them and haven't had any problems. They saved me about $150 over local retail tire places.

That really sucks Charlie sounds like you got the raw end of the deal. I'm sure they will straighten it out eventually. I would call and talk to someone until it was fixed. I'm not vouching for the company but I didn't have any issues. I don't care if a tire has been sitting in a shelf as long as it is new. I'm not sure if I would buy from them again. But I guess I will burn that bridge when I get there hopefully not for another 20,000.

I've bought tires from them before and found that they apparently can have the tires drop shipped from places other than Oregon. I live in PA and ordered some tires that were delivered in 2 days. I wondered how they could have gotten all the way across the country from Oregon in just 2 days. I looked on the shipping tag and found they had come from either Ohio or Indiana (I don't remember for sure).

The only problem I ever had with them was with their tire tread pictures. For racing, I want a particular tread design and the softest tire compound rating. I ordered some tires from them based on their picture and the tires I received did not have the same tread design. I called and complained and they said that tread design was no longer available. I could have returned them, but I would have had to pay shipping back, so I kept them.
              You gonna race that thing?

I've looked at Tire-easy a couple of times but have always been scared off by their really high shipping charges.

I wonder if they are similar to Rock Auto, where they operate like a consignment or clearance warehouse. Places that have product they want to sell list with them, and then when an order is placed, it ships from whatever location has it.

Sales tax on internet purchases is getting to be an issue. Many states are complaining that they are losing significant funds to "out of state" sales, and some states are forming agreements to collect sales tax across state lines. Nebraska actually has a section on their state income tax form where they ask you to "voluntarily" list and pay sales tax on internet purchases, LOL. Yeah, that's gonna happen...

A little off-topic, but I have always been happy with Tirerack, http://www.tirerack.com/index.jsp?s_...S|e|6698782093&

I found a place that is pretty reasonable on installation, which can be a bite. My complaint with the usual tire stores is the hardsell you get for struts, alignments, batteries and so on.
