  • what would you do?

So my lovely wife had a good idea today. We need work done to our cars. She is going to spend $2000 on her suburban and I have $2000 to spend on the festiva. So hear I am with all sorts of things flying in my head. I want the car to handle better and it needs brakes. So aspire swap is something I need to do. Also if it rains I cant drive the car. Not because I don't want to but because it won't start. That's the only two thing's I have. So I think im about a grand in. I got nothing else I can think of for that much. Also it's my drive so I have to keep it on the road.

hmmmm that is a tough spot. everything i have done to either of my cars has cost me less than 2 grand including the car itself. you near any other seasoned vet members. you could make some things really happen with 2 g's and some good direction. im talking bp aspire swap and lowered.... boom!
-90 festiva - bp swap "relentless" (thanks matt) aspire swap, pacesetter, underdrive pulley
-90 festiva - surf blue (undetermined destiny) wanna keep but wifey says noooooooo

Won't start when it's humid? What year is it? Stick or auto?

Get the suspension tricked, get new wheels and tires and see if you got room for a B6 or B8 in the budget!!

I'd get the Asire rear beam, Rio front knuckles. Then go with a BP engine. You should have enough to get a new exhaust, used wheels and new tires depending on the wheels you want.

Fix starting issue, Aspire swap, wheels/tires. Keep B3 for mileage, fix oil leaks; some interior improvements.

does car crank when wet out or is it a no crank issue?

cam/springs from Matt Dickmeyer (~$300). aspire or escort master cylinder (~$40). 14x6 rims with 165/60 tires (~$450 new). newsed springs/struts (i like the Rio struts with modded springs). aspire/rio brake swap if you really think it's nessisary.

I've got the Capri front-only swap. You could save money by doing a front-only Aspire swap and either having two spares (one for each bolt pattern) or having a spare with both bolt patterns.

jhli, I propose a mini-meet at 3PM Sunday June 2, at Taylor's Auto Salvage on St Charles Rock Road. They have a couple of Festys there. You up for it? John? Dan? Anyone else?

I do, mainly because it looks good. I think the Aspire swap is better overall.
