  • My new to me GL Sport!

Hey all! Just picked up this Black 92 GL Sport!

Got it from this posting in Dallas, TX. It was posted on this forum.

    http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/cto/4044209869.html

It has some issues I will have to work out.

    Pros
    1) Its black! (factory Ebony color)
    2) Its black and rust free!
    3) Its a black, rust free, GL Sport!
    4) Its a black, rust free, GL Sport with red pin stripe interior!

    Cons
You know it came from Texas, as it blows oil like Texas oil rig! VC blow-by
    Has minor front end damage
    One seat has a rip

    Anywho, here's some pics

Also came with a sunroof, new alternator, and starter

    pics of issues

Engine bay and the oil blow issue

Had a catch can in the wrong place, between pvc and intake. It had no oil in it at all.
I dissected the catch can to make a drip line to the ground

pic of oil puddle on rad support

    and rigged cone filter

Oil on the hood from the 618 mile drive back. Took 7 1/2 quarts oil to get back here.

I paid too much for it, but there are no rust free festys around here (rust belt) for under $2000 or more
So I took this one as it is really rust free, The factory paint is still intact all around the wheels wells, the trailing arm, and the entire bottom!

So what do you guys think? Did I do good in rescuing this Festy?! It needed rescuing. The guy knew enough to be dangerous to it!

Awesome save Dan!!!! So glad someone on the forum purchased it! Especially one of us "old timers" hehehe

And I am super jealous! Had I been closer to TX, she would have been sitting in my driveway instead LOL

      Thanks Mark!

The freakin' drive almost done me and my son in!!!!! Sheesh!

27-28 hours of straight driving! drool

Took my Isuzu truck in case I needed to tow it. Man, that truck gets about 22 mpg and has maybe a 12 gal tank. Had to stop every 200 miles to fill up on the way to TX.
Then on the way back had to stop every 100 miles to put oil in the GL!
It was a marathon driving adventure. We ate lots of chips and snacks to keep awake! Twice I found myself in the right hand lane, and had no idea how I got there!!!!!! Ooopps!
We made it back okay though. Some close encounters along the way.

      Did see something very cool.
About 5 miles into Oklahoma, a "Dust Devil" popped up right next to the hiway we were on, about 50 yrds to the side of the hiway.
It had just formed and grew bigger as we passed. Grew to about 20 yds wide, picking up debris as it grew.

      My first Dust Devil!

                          drddan,

Good score! The seat rip can be fixed by an upholstery shop, they would take off the cover, replace panel, put back on. Be sitting down when you get the quote.

How many miles? Did you see if the PCV valve was clogged? If you run it with the oil filler cap off does it blow a lot of gas and / or oil out?

I would check the compression first. It may have had the guts run out of it. Do a lot of checking before pulling the engine.

I have a new to me 89 with indicated 128,xxx miles that burns oil but no blow by. It runs like a scalded dog. The condition of the suspension leads me to believe that it has a lot more than 128 K of hard miles on it.
